Object Handling volunteers help bring the museum’s collection to life, enabling visitors to discover the museum through touching real objects, and exploring themes in the galleries. The role offers the chance to learn about our collection alongside like-minded individuals and engage with a broad audience from novice to enthusiast, and families to senior citizens. You’ll demonstrate how some of our objects work and inspire visitor’s curiosity by giving them the chance to handle objects themselves.
Provide a warm and welcoming presence in our public spaces Supporting visitors to discover the museum through handling real museum objects Interact with broad audiences Allow visitors to explore the history of the objects and the context in which they would have been used Learn about the themes of the objects being used Work with and supporting other volunteers Set up the trolley Take care and responsibility for the handling collection and the trolley - Carry out other relevant work as agreed, including for example public engagement at Open Weekends, and social media - Carry out oral history interviews
