Sustainability in general, and Sustainable Development in particular is vital for all of us to live in a just, and prosperous society. Working with over 400 not-for-profit partner organisations here in the Volunteering Service we have the opportunity to connect you to a wide range of fantastic organisations working towards each SDG every day.

The United Nations dedicates each month to a different Sustainable Development Goal to spotlight challenges, progress, and the way forward to fulfilling Agenda 2030. Every month, they will advise those wanting to get involved to donate to or support a Goal-relevant Charity. Since November 2021, each month we bring you vital information on why each SDG is important, what UCL is doing to further the relevant Goal, and how you can get involved via volunteering.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – or Agenda 2030 – is a plan of action for people, planet, and prosperity. Adopted by all 193 UN members unanimously in 2015 at a historic UN Summit, the Plan sets out to end poverty in all its form by 2030, and to foster sustainable, and just development going forward. It constitutes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets that comprise the plan of fulfilling Agenda 2030.

UCL, as a world-leading educational institution has contributed a tremendous amount to the furthering of all SDGs via research, policy advisory, and building global partnerships. Students and Academic Staff alike work closely with the local community in London, participate in nation-wide UK Sustainable Development Projects, and in global initiatives to feed the poor, eliminate communicable diseases, make agriculture more efficient, or plan more sustainable cities to mention a few.

Volunteering is a fantastic way to not only gain skills and social connections, but to make change and advocate for a better future for all. Via volunteering your time at one of our featured opportunities every month, you can directly contribute to creating just conditions for all, everywhere, while also preserving and recovering our planet and eco-system.
