Join us for a hands-on day of volunteering with OurParklife as we take on the task of meadow scything and raking! This traditional method of cutting the meadow by hand helps maintain a balanced ecosystem, benefiting local wildlife and ensuring that nutrients don’t return to the soil, allowing for a diverse range of plant species to thrive.
Not only is this a fantastic opportunity to help the environment, but it’s also a chance to meet new people, learn something new, and have fun! Whether you’re passionate about wildlife or simply looking for a meaningful way to spend your day, you’ll leave with a sense of accomplishment and new skills.
What to Expect:
- Time: The day will run from 9:30am to 2:30pm, with a break for lunch around midday.
- Training Provided: Don’t worry if you’ve never tried scything before! We’ll provide full training to ensure everyone can participate safely.
- PPE Provided: Gloves and goggles will be provided.

- Meeting Point: Please meet at 9:30am at the entrance to the UCL Marshgate Building
- Clothing: Attendees must wear trousers and sturdy, closed-toe footwear to participate. (Please dress for the weather – this event will go ahead rain or shine!)
- Travel and Lunch Expenses: To make it easier for you to join us, we will reimburse travel and lunch expenses.
