Election post
I would like to stand for this role because I believe that I can bring a new, fresh perspective to help young people come closer to God through Scripture and prayer. I believe in the power of the Word of God, and I would like to use Lectio Divina to help young people apply the weekly Gospel to their daily lives. Lectio is a great way to interact with the Word of God and to have a dialogue with God. I would like to improve it by teaching students how to scrutinise the Word of God. This will be more interactive and create a sense of community, amongst the young Catholics of UCL. I will also introduce Fr Oscar from the local parish church of St Charles Borromeo, as he is our Chaplain and Olivia will also help guide us. I think it is important to have a priest with us during Lectio as he can help guide us and enlighten us on what God wants from us.
Also, I will carry on doing Rosary Mondays and every month I would like to introduce a ‘Walkabout Rosary,’ where a group of us will walk from Newman House to a local church, praying the rosary and then have silent prayer there. This will give us the opportunity to take a short break from our chaotic days in the city and solely focus on the love that God has for us. Also, for the interfaith side I would like to organise social events with the Jewish and Muslim UCL societies as it is highly important for us, young Catholics, to be in communion with other religions.
