Marie Curie Companions is an amazing service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal or life-limiting illness. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service.
Companion volunteers provide companionship and emotional support; practical support; short breaks for carers; and help with signposting for information and support. From simply having a cup of tea and chat, to going out for short walks together, you can make a huge difference with as little as 1-3 hours a week.
This role is so helpful in supporting people who may have become disconnected or isolated due to their illness. We are looking for caring empathetic people who want to improve someone's end of life experience.
- Spending 1-3 hours a week with your match suffering with a terminal or life limiting illness in their home or out in their community.
- Keeping your manger updated with short weekly reports on how the match is going.
- Attending a half day training to make sure you are prepared for the role.
- Reporting any issues or questions you have to your manager.
