Emma Tan

I’m a Year 1 Human Neuroscience student committed to addressing healthcare inequalities, education disparities, and fostering scientific literacy through volunteering! I plan to advocate for:

Volunteer Preparation: ensure clear communication of logistics for our annual service-learning trips by creating a comprehensive information package that includes skill-based sessions (e.g., first aid), travel advice, and cultural orientation. To provide additional mentorship, I plan to pair experienced members with new volunteers.

Lateral Volunteer Opportunities for Busy Students: offer flexible volunteering options, such as writing for a monthly newsletter updating members and the UCL community on MEDLIFE activity, and pressing health and education topics. I will advocate for opportunities for students to design Instagram posts spotlighting aspects of these topics they are interested in, while inviting speakers from charities & academia to enhance discussions during meetings.

Networking: seek partnerships through the Volunteering Service and local groups aligned with our mission. I hope to collaborate with other societies on joint fundraisers, such as a charity ball, to maximise our outreach and impact.

Running a music initiative for migrant children and a Period Education Project at school honed my skills in coordinating volunteer campaigns and engaging diverse groups. I aim to make us more effective volunteers while organising enjoyable opportunities that foster community and connection!
