Being a member of the Labour party, I knew that I wanted to get involved in this society before even starting at UCL, and that I wanted to contribute in order to help make the society the best it can be. Growing up in a very Labour-prominent coal-mining town, the party has done a lot for my family and it is of significant importance to me. This motivated me to do some work experience with Yvette Cooper, which I feel has provided me with some interesting experiences that will help me to play a useful role in this society, such as campaigning in by-elections and helping to organise summer events in my local area. I hope that these experiences would allow me to similarly organise events within the society, as I would really love to be part of the creation of a very active club that brings together people from UCL, as well as makes a difference in the community. This role would mean a lot to me, and I hope that you will consider me for it so I can show you that!

I am standing because I want to help this society grow, so that more students can get involved and make a change. If elected, I will create an anonymous form where members will be welcome to file complaints/suggestions on how to improve their experience in the society. I'd also like to gauge interest in alcohol free events and, if sufficient, to implement more of them in our calendar in order for us to become a more inclusive society. Of course, I will be available for any member to reach out to in regards to any concerns or issues they may be experiencing. Finally, I will expand the welfare state.

I joined the Labour Party on 1st January 2024 and I chose this date for a special reason. I had gone on canvassing campaigns in North Chingford and socialist for some time, but the date I  joined had to be significant. Everytime I look at the date I joined, I remember that to be in the Labour Party is to be a proud winning socialist.

Since joining, I became the youth officer of my CLP's Labour Party and am now setting up the Young Labour's West Essex and Hertford East Branch.

I envisage two things when it comes to UCL's Labour Party:

  1. More Labour Social events - the point of a uni labour party is for people to become connected in the party, whether it be lifelong friends or lifelong comrades, that's what makes a Labour Pub Crawl or a meeting with an MP so special.
  2. Canvassing experience - I find the thrill of canvassing and feeling like you're making a difference fantastic and I 'd love for more people in UCL's Labour Society to have that experience.

As Welfare Officer, I want to ensure a close knit, friendly and safe atmosphere within our society. It's the key to any good society and even more so a good party.
