I'm Sam and I've been interim creative director for the last few weeks.
In this time, I've worked on typesetting 7 articles in a 2 week timespan, creating illustrations for articles, designing the official Media Kit & liaising with other societies to organise art events, like the upcoming collab with Free Hype - I can't wait to do more throughout the year as your official creative director!
I love being creative, with a long standing love for art and digital design, I have worked as a designer for The London Culture Review magazine since Feb ‘24. Through this, as well as my experiences planning events for my high school club like bake sales & school takeovers, I got to understand what it is like working in a team & became a better collaborator.
I’m organised & understand that coordinating so many moving parts to create a cohesive magazine issue is difficult, and I am committed to actively communicating with participating members to ensure that your experience is as smooth as possible. These skills will also find their use in planning art-based events like illustration workshops and art socials.
If elected I would:
- Meet set deadlines.
- Plan more art related socials
- Collaborate with other societies for events - Sip/snack & paint socials & illustration workshops to offer more support to our artists.
- Encourage more communication between the components of the magazine to streamline the production process.
- Homogenise formatting rules for the CDs for a more consistent magazine look.
As someone with a passion for both art and science, I see joining Kinesis Magazine as Creative Director as an incredible opportunity to showcase my skills and contribute to one of the largest student-led science magazine organisations in London. I have extensive experience in design and art, which I believe would make me a strong Creative Director for the team.
I look forward to becoming part of Kinesis and would love to collaborate with fellow Creative Directors to help raise the magazine's profile.
My name is Suzie, a fourth-year MSci Cell Biology student running for the position of Creative Director. Since joining the magazine in my second year, I have really enjoyed exploring different ways to connect with everyone at UCL through writing articles, producing illustrations and being part of the podcast team at Kinesis.
During my time as interim Creative Director this year, I’ve enjoyed managing multiple creative projects: typesetting engaging articles for our "Scientists of Tomorrow/Fresher’s Issue," organising a leaf-printing social to bring artists together, and developing a professional media kit to attract funding opportunities. We are planning to host more events this term for our fellow artists, with a focus on generating illustrations that bring our upcoming issue to life. As Creative Director, my goal is to foster a cohesive and dynamic visual identity for Kinesis that amplifies our outreach and visibility. I am committed to supporting our talented authors, editors, and artists in curating issues that are not only intellectually stimulating but visually captivating, making Kinesis the perfect space for both scientific insight and creative expression.
