Beatrice Baldi

Coming from an Italian family but having only lived in Milan, Italy the past 4 years, I have only recently become accustomed to the Italian way of life, language and culture. I fully integrated myself, and now consider Milan my home; however, university in London has been my forever dream and so I had to leave the 'quotidianità' that I had cultivated over the years. As such, I would love to be Vice President of Italian Society in order to to meet other Italian students, from both UCL and other London universities, forge new friendships and be able to bring a slice of Italy to London. I am excited to engage in cultural, social and foodie events alike, and hope to be able to work alongside a team of other Italian students to represent our community within UCL. Grazie e a presto!

Ismael Blanca Lahrech

I am applying for the Vice President position in the Italian Society because I am passionate about fostering a welcoming, dynamic community where members can connect, learn, and celebrate Italian culture. Having led the International Committee at Cheltenham College, where I organized events to promote cultural diversity for over 200 students, I am confident in my ability to support the society’s initiatives and work collaboratively to enhance members' experiences.

In this role, I would focus on creating inclusive events that celebrate Italian heritage and foster a sense of belonging within UCL's diverse community. My multilingual abilities—English, French, Spanish, German, and Arabic—would allow me to connect effectively with our international membership base and collaborators, expanding our society’s reach and impact. I aim to bring in fresh perspectives and create spaces where members feel valued and engaged, whether through cultural events, social gatherings, or educational workshops.

As Vice President, I would work closely with the President and committee to ensure our activities resonate with members' interests and needs. I am excited about the opportunity to build on the society’s successes and help make this year memorable for everyone. I believe my experience in leadership, combined with a deep appreciation for Italian culture, makes me well-suited to support the society in achieving its goals and creating a thriving community.

Manuel Martello

I am a student from Milan who moved to London four years ago. I have remained closely connected to our cultural roots, especially through the food, music, and Italian community. I consider myself an empathetic person and would be dedicated to supporting our Italian peers as they navigate university life. As Vice President, I would work to bring us together through Italian-themed events and ensure smooth operations within the society by getting more people involved and organising more frequent events promoting Italian culture.

I bring strong organisational skills and attention to detail, which I believe are valuable for managing multiple responsibilities effectively. Additionally, I am eager to build connections in the wider university life and organise events where Italian professionals can share valuable insights and potentially help to build rapport with university students.

I’m excited about the opportunity to engage with the Italian community and contribute to the society’s success and inclusivity, creating a supportive environment for all members.
