Course Overview:

This weekly advanced-level Chinese class, conducted by UCLCSSA Mandarin Education Society, is designed for students who have already achieved a strong foundation in Mandarin Chinese. This course aims to refine and deepen their language skills, focusing on advanced linguistic structures and nuanced expressions. The curriculum emphasizes comprehensive language proficiency, including advanced listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities.

In Term 2 of 2024, the Mandarin Language Class (Advanced Level, UCLCSSA) takes place every Tuesday 2-3pm and every Wednesday 1-2pm. Advanced-level Teaching Content:

  1. Advanced Conversational Dynamics: Engage in advanced conversations, discussions, and debates on complex topics.
  2. Literary Appreciation: Analyze and discuss excerpts from Chinese literature and contemporary writings.
  3. Professional and Academic Vocabulary: Acquire specialized vocabulary related to professions, academia, and specific fields of interest.
  4. Advanced Chinese Characters: Master more complex Chinese characters and idiomatic expressions.
  5. Cultural Discourse: Explore intricate aspects of Chinese culture, societal issues, and contemporary trends.

Teaching Methods: The class will employ advanced teaching methods, including in-depth discussions, presentations, literary analysis, research projects, and essay writing. Emphasis will be placed on applying language skills in real-world contexts and expressing complex ideas.
