As you enter Term 3, Student Support and Wellbeing offer our 'Exam Season Toolkit' as a helping hand to support you with a successful exam season (March, April and May 2024). We invite you to take time out from revision and de-stress. Our Toolkit will help you get ready, get set, and go forth to succeed in your assessments. Be sure to book your spot at these events and activities!

About the session

Unleash your creativity with the embroidery kits provided by Student Support and Wellbeing! Join us for a delightful embroidery session where you can craft your personalized masterpiece. Dive into the world of needle and thread by following one of our pre-made patterns, or if you're an embroidery pro, feel free to create your own unique design. All embroidery hoops must be returned at the end of the session before you leave with your beautifully embroidered keepsake.

To secure your spot and make the most of this artistic endeavour, we encourage you to book in advance. The session runs from 9.30am to 1.30pm, and we estimate that each embroidery square will take approximately 2 hours to complete. Complete beginners as well as pros are very welcome!

The benefits of embroidery

Hand embroidery is a manual and creative skill practised, preserved, and passed for centuries, from one generation to another, and it has excellent benefits for our mental health:

Alleviate Stress: The act of embroidery can release of neurotransmitters that promote joy and well-being, while also reducing stress hormones.

Reduce Anxiety: Taking time to looking at and appreciate a pleasing piece of embroidery, or any visual art, can help manage and reduce anxiety.

Lower blood pressure and a decrease in heart rate: A study conducted by the Home Sewing Association found that people doing cross-stitch enjoyed these exact physiological changes.

Be mindful: Embroidery can help us engage in mindfulness, keeping us in the present moment, silencing the parts of the brain implicated in generating negative emotions.

Build confidence: Completed embroidery projects can generate feelings of accomplishment, helping build self-confidence.

Express yourself: While some people sing and others dance. Embroiderers can express themselves through embroidery


Build your SSW

Student Support and Wellbeing curate termly campaigns to support the three core aspects of your own SSW: Social bonding, Skills for life and Wellbeing at university. Each activity aims to develop one, two, or all three of these aspects.
