'Beat the January Blues', organised by Student Support and Wellbeing, is a series of events in Term 2 (Monday 22nd - Wednesday 31st January 2024) where you can gather, giggle, get outside and meet others. Our activities will boost your mood and help you forget about the winter weather. Be sure to book your spot at these events and activities!

About the candle making workshops

Dreaming of the perfect candle to light up the winter days? Join UCL Lamorna Society to learn, step-by-step, how to make a scented candle from scratch. This is a great chance to learn how to create a candle and personalise it to your tastes, choosing the type of wax (soy/paraffin), colour (limitless) and scent of your candle. All materials will be included and members of the society will support you to create your own candle. These workshops are also a great opportunity for you to meet other students and make new friends. Spaces are limited across the three hourly workshops, so please book your spot in advance.

The benefits of candle making

Candle making can be a fun and rewarding activity, but it also has several health benefits that can improve your overall wellbeing. Here are some of the top benefits:

Stress Relief: The act of creating something with your own hands can be therapeutic and help to reduce stress and anxiety. The soothing and relaxing scents of essential oils in candles can also help to calm the mind and body.

Improved Sleep: The soft glow and calming scents of candles can create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere in the bedroom, which can lead to improved sleep.

Increased Concentration: The aroma of certain essential oils, such as peppermint and rosemary, can help to improve focus and concentration. Burning a candle with these scents while working or studying can be beneficial.

Improved Mood: The act of candle making and the ambiance created by burning candles can improve your overall mood and sense of well-being.

Increased Creativity: Engaging in a creative activity like candle making can help to stimulate the mind and boost creativity.
