Throughout his career, Professor Catlow has championed collaboration and dialogue across borders, recognizing the importance of a global perspective in addressing global development challenges. He has held many senior academic positions including Director of the Davy Faraday Laboratory of the Royal Institution, Chair of Chemistry and Dean of the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences also at UCL. He was also the 2021-2022 co-president of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP), a Fellow of the International Science Council, a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales and of the Leopoldina – the German National Science Academy, and the former Foreign Secretary and Vice President of the Royal Society. His long-standing and wide-ranging contribution to the discipline was recognised in 2020 when he was Knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.
