The purpose of the Group Activities Buddy Volunteer role is to help support staff with the various activities and groups they have at Leigh Road. This helps target social isolation found among those with learning disabilities and encourages social interaction through activities, outings, and conversation.
Possible Activity Timetable (some planned activities have flexibility):
- Swimming – Wednesday afternoon / evening. Must be someone willing to get in the water
- Bowling – Thursday afternoon for Bowling
- Arts and Crafts – Friday afternoon or Thursday mornings
- Church attendant – 10:30 – 12:30 on Sunday
- Team 4 support – Monday morning
- Wheelchair ice skating - Wednesday 10:00 – 12:00. Must be someone willing to ice skate.
- Pedal Power – Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:00. Helpful if person can ride a bike but not essential.
- Enabling people to build confidence and self-esteem through various activities, such as arts and crafts, sports, swimming and music.
- To provide and encourage participation in a wide range of social activities, outings and skills-based groups.
- To support an individual or small group to engage more fully with the activities and with other members in the group
You’ll be working with members of staff and other volunteers, so there is lots of opportunity to learn. If you haven’t worked with people with learning disabilities before this would be a good way to build up your confidence.
