“We are a collective group of friends, who share the same passion, love and excitement for snowsports. And we’re just lucky enough to have the forum of our society to share that with everyone.”

That is how I present the club to anyone who asks.

I find it to be emblematic of who we are as a society, and it speaks to who we each are as people.

I joined snowsports in February of first year, because it was a rough year for me- and I thought joining a society of like-minded people would help me clear that hurdle.

I stayed in snowsports because I felt like I joined a big family.

When I reflect on the role of president, I think it is must crucially about trust. To delegate effectively to my fellow committee members, and trust them; to value our club members and trust we can create an incredible experience together. To back up that trust, my role is to plan, organise and have the foresight to maintain and improve any event or activity we host- and if something goes wrong, I take responsibility, and more importantly, we work together to find a solution.

So, I ask you to put your trust in me.

Trust that I will do right by all of you. Trust that I will maintain and grow this family which has welcomed me with warmth and support across my uni experience. One which I have found incredible friends, and have just simply had a lot of fun being a part of.

Trust that I will serve you as president to the best of my ability, and to the best interests of the club. Thank

Dren Hakaj

Hey! I'm Dren, a Maths student re-doing my first year!

If I manage to pass my first year this time round, there's nothing more that I'd love than to be President next year. This past year the club has become an integral part of my life, in fact I think I'm yet to miss a Social, which is ironic because last year it was the complete opposite.

Being Treasurer this year has been a thrilling experience, I've been engaged in almost every aspect of the club, whether this was helping organise trips and competitions, working closely with the union or managing the finances. Overall, I think being treasurer this year has put me in a good position to be the clubs President.

There are a few ideas I'd love to implement as President, as great of a year it has been, I strongly believe next year can be greater!

  • Beginner lessons have been a success this year and I think offering intermediate sessions and refresher sessions next year would be a great step forward.

  • Make communications clearer to club members through our social media platforms so people can schedule Snowsports events easier with their Uni and personal life.

  • This is a big one so be prepared! Move our groupchats to Whatsapp.

With a passion for Snowsports and a commitment to enhancing the member experience, I am confident that together we can make next year even more memorable and enjoyable for everyone involved. Let's carve out an unforgettable year on the slopes and beyond!

Molly Taylor

Hi, I’m Molly, a 1st year Spanish student. As President, I will utilise my fresher perspective to bring new ideas and energy to the club. Having attended many socials, trainings, and competitions this year, I will continue to be committed in all aspects. Snowsports is the defining part of my university life, and I’m dedicated to making it a rewarding experience for all.

Aims:

  • Improve newcomer integration by developing the initiatives that eased my joining the club last year, e.g. have a more structured meet-the-committee social.
  • Delegate tasks effectively, utilising the strengths of the committee to manage information and stay organised.
  • Implement a streamlined communication strategy, with a regular calendar of events and a WhatsApp community for announcements and better engagement.
  • Introduce a new black-tie event, enhancing community spirit and providing another occasion for members to connect via their shared love of snowsports.
  • Maintain a balance between friendship and leadership, fostering a culture of respect, communication, and collaboration.
  • Focus on integrating beginners and encouraging participation from exchange students and those new to the sport through 'refreshers' week and 'give-it-a-go' sessions.

When faced with difficulties, my leadership skills truly shine. I face adversity with confidence and composure to ensure a solution is reached. I am committed, sociable, diligent, and respectful. As your President, I know we could make next year the best yet!
