I thoroughly enjoy organizing events and have some experience in that aspect, but I haven’t had have many opportunities to organise live music events with other musicians before attending UCL. I’ve really enjoyed the Live Music Society events so far, and also have a few ideas that could be implemented.

Firstly, it would be nice to organize more events similar to extravabandza along the year, in order to allow musicians that aren’t in a band (especially first years) to perform more often, and also allow different members of thelive music society to gain experience as MDs (musical director).

Secondly, similarly to the build-a-band jams,  it could be useful to organize auditions for musicians that want to join a band, allowing band members or managers to recruit them (online or in person).

Finally, it would be nice to organize more classes or workshops for different instruments or genres, where more experiences musicians could sign up to teach techniques or theory to members that want to get more familiar with a certain type of music (ex: classical pianists that want to learn jazz piano/ acoustic guitarists that want to learn electric). This could also involve classes for audio engineering or general use of tech for live music.

Overall, I would like for everyone joining the live music society to be able to participate in events and have fun, while also having the opportunity to learn (or teach) new things! I hope that you like my ideas and will vote for me! :)

Hi!

After being a part of Rhapsody, I realized that I wanted to be more involved in the society. Being an Events Officer would be the perfect position for me to help organize the fantastic live music shows that the society holds throughout the year and be a part of it all. I would love to meet new musicians and help provide a platform for budding UCL talents to show off their musical chops or even share some of their original music. Additionally, I hope to build on my previous experience of organizing music events for my school and charity fundraisers.

Thanks!

Chris

As Events Officer one of the main things I'd really want to introduce more of is the opportunity for people to be able jam and take advantage of all the equipment of the Live Music Society in a more relaxed setting. Personally I've always found the concept of playing in front of a group of people without having done a month of rehearsals horrifying and so for people who feel the same way more informal jams would be a chance to play music and meet other members of the society in a relaxed enviroment.

For the role of events officer I have a great amount of experience having been the community events officer of my 6th form college and would help to put together various events for students including a few gigs. This has also given me skills for organising and preparing events for students. I've also been a fresher's rep for Classics Soc for the past two terms and as such I already have a small amount of experience when it comes to working on a committee.

Lastly, I want to nominate myself for Live Music Soc committee because it's a cool society with funky tunes and has given me the chance to play some music since getting to uni (I owe everything to the soundproof room). I've met a ton of really nice people at Live Music Soc and as events officer I'd love the chance to connect more people through a shared love of music.

TLDR; More laid back jams + I'm really cool pls vote for me

Becoming a member of Live Music Society is the best decision I have ever made throughout my one and a half years in UCL. I participated in Rhapsody 2023, multiple gigs at Mully's, and some of the socials, and they were a lot of fun. In fact, LMS members that I met and performed with are the most talented, kindest people and the reason why I become interested to be a part of the community.

I am running for Events Officer because I believe that events like gigs, opens mics, socials, etc., are the core of LMS – I would like to contribute to the society as much as I can, and it is my goal to organise and manage such events where the members are able to showcase their musical abilities and connect with other fellow musicians. I also believe that this position will have me working directly with other LMS committee and members so that I can meet more people and work as a team.

Vote me as an Events Officer and I guarantee everyone will have an enjoyable time in LMS. LMS has been a part of my fun ‘uni’ experience and I want other members to have that too.
