Candidates

Shreeya V Gorasia

I would love to be part of the Hindu society committee. I have loved every single event that the society as organised and looking forward to many more to come.

I found beginning of first year quite lonely and difficult, but it was through this society I made friends and also had a lot of fun. I would love to help more people in a similar situation and make a difference in the UCL community.

I love contributing ideas for events such as weekly mendhi nights, more 'family' activities like Indian food days, and would love to help plan and organise even more as I appreciate the hard work that goes on behind the scenes.

It would be a great pleasure to give back to the community whether it's for planning fun activities, celebrating the vibrant and important religious events like holi, Diwali and so much more. There are so many possibilities to bring everyone together.

I was amazed by the rangeela performances and know it would not have been so spectacular without the hard work behind the scenes, and would love to make sure the following years rangeela is even bigger. I know much of the success of the events is from the organising and negating with businesses, and charities and I feel like I'm suited to managing that.

I would be honoured to be part of the society and will do my very best as a marketing and sales officer.

Rish Sali

Hi everyone, my name is Rish and I'm running for Sponsorship officer. I am standing for this position because I am passionate about the mission and values of the society and believe that I have the skills and experience needed to help make next year even more successful than the current.

As one of the biggest cultural societies (dare I say the biggest) in London, we are known for having some of the best events and as an active member of the society, I have a clear direction for where this society can be further taken.

I believe that with the right sponsorships, we can bring in more resources and open up more opportunities for our members. I have experience working with businesses (helped secure a sponsorship with Mercedes for an F1 in schools competition) to build relationships and secure sponsorships and plan to research new potential sponsors and reach out to them with customized proposals. Additionally, I will work closely with the marketing team to create compelling materials that will help engage and attract sponsors.

But then what does this mean for you as a member of the Hindu society? Well, potentially bigger and better events, cheaper tickets, free pizzas and chole bhature and the list goes on.

I am excited to take on this challenge so I ask for your vote so that I can bring my vision and dedication to this important role. Thank you for your consideration.

Roma Shah

Hey, I’m Roma, a first-year medic running for the position of Sponsorship Officer!

Diwali Ball and Rangeela have been 2 of the most memorable events I’ve attended since starting at UCL, and it’s how I met some of my closest friends. Joining Hindu Society has helped to reinforce my culture and meet people from similar backgrounds, giving a very homely feeling. I appreciate and am inspired by the hard work and effort that goes into coordinating events, regardless of their scale, and I wish to be a part of the teamwork and collaboration to help provide similar experiences to people in the future years. Sponsorships are a vital aspect of societies, with the funding enabling memorable events to come to fruition.

Working for a private GP company partnered with other major healthcare providers such as Bupa and Babylon, and working for an NHS GP practice has given me plenty of experience. This includes building communication skills and relationships, through attending meetings, regular clinics, and networking events. That is why I think I am the perfect candidate to reinforce Hindu Society’s external funding and make it into an even bigger and better cultural/religious society. I believe that my skills will assist in my tireless efforts in the coming summer to negotiate with, and hopefully secure some huge sponsors.

With your votes, not only will I strive to secure as many sponsors as possible, but I hope others will be able to enjoy their UCL experience as much as I have so far.

Manasi Dedhia

Hi I’m manasi and I’m running to be sponsorship officer as I have loved being part of hsoc this year and connecting more with my culture by immersing myself into the events it has offered- being in rangeela has been my highlight so far! The sense of community in this society has been so refreshing and I would love to have the chance to continue this, and be part of the team creating a hsoc family that all members can make the best memories in. By securing the top sponsorships deals we will have greater opportunities to put on unforgettable events which with my commitment and drive, I am certain I can significantly contribute to. I have always enjoyed working in teams and being deputy head girl at school means I have organised events and liased with a variety of people. My level 2 certificate in financial education coupled with my enthusiasm to learn equips me with the skills required to draw up the sponsorship forms. Communication is one of my strengths, demonstrated by the fact I was part of a telephone service helping to battle loneliness throughout covid, therefore am equipped with the interpersonal skills required to negotiate with sponsors. I understand the sheer amount of work that goes into putting on these large scale events and so I am confident that alongside my team we can get the best sponsorships and put on the biggest hsoc events this year! I’m energetic, love to get involved and have some fun so I hope I get the opportunity to be part of this amazing committee!

Darshini D Bhudia

Hi! I’m Darshini and I’m a first-year Geography student. I enjoy interacting with new people and I believe that I would be an effective candidate for the role of Sponsorship Officer.

Having been a member of Hindu Society for a few months now, has made me realised the enjoyable culture within the society. The fun small-scale and large-scale events that they host is something I would enjoy contributing to through the role of sponsorship officer. During sixth form, I took on the role of cultural prefect as well as House Captain which required me to make events possible, whilst on a budget. Examples of events I held were a cultural fashion show, similar to Jalwa in Rangeela, a Diwali fair and various competitions. In order to make these events possible, I was required to work with a team of individuals to create ways of raising money and reach out to companies to create deals to assist the fashion show. Therefore, developing the skills of teamwork, leadership and creativity as well as having experiences of raising money, makes me an effective candidate for the role of Sponsorship Officer. Not only will I be able to communicate with companies interested in helping raise funds for the society, but I will also be able to effectively communicate with other teams such as the Marketing team. Having me as the Sponsorship Officer for UCL Hindu Society will guarantee bigger and better trademark events such as Diwali Ball and Rangeela.

Prachi Saraf

I’d be thrilled to be Hindu Society’s Sponsorship Officer and help lead one of UCL’s largest cultural societies.

I have really enjoyed taking part in HSoc events over the past year, including Rangeela, Diwali Ball and Jashn, and in this way celebrating the cultural space this society provides. The multiple HSoc socials such as the Diwali Fair in Freshers’ week were also a great way to make new friends, and I want to work behind the scenes with the committee to organise and help secure the funding for even more amazing events like this to give more people the same opportunity.

My HSoc highlight has been performing as a singer in Rangeela as part of the music act, ‘Milaap’. Not only were rehearsals the most enjoyable part of uni for a month, they also helped me develop time management skills that would be invaluable to the role.

Also, my past leadership experience will be useful; having been Secretary of my school’s History Society, I have experience liaising with and inviting speakers, which makes me equipped to negotiate with businesses and sponsors. Further, I was also leader of my school’s Music Society where I organised a few concerts with my peers, and being the First Year Rep of UCL Live Music Society has given me experience being on a university committee; I would love to learn even more through the role in HSoc’s 2023-4 committee!

I love connecting with people and would love to help lead this culturally rich society. I hope to see you as Sponsorship Officer soon!

Sohum Sen

Hi everyone, I'm Sohum, a third-year Mathematical Computation student, and I'm excited to apply for the position of Sponsorship Officer for Hindu society.

Over my three years at UCL, I have held various society committee leadership roles ranging everything from Director to Treasurer.

As the Sponsorship Officer, I'm passionate about building relationships and generating deals to bring new initiatives to life.

My experience as Treasurer has provided me with the skills to build a reliable network of sponsors. As Treasurer, I've worked closely with the President and senior team to achieve our objectives and accomplish the following:

  • Growing our member base to an all-time high (300+), making us one of the most active and vibrant societies on campus.
  • Securing large sponsorships (£3k+) for the first time ever, allowing us to fund more initiatives and increase our scale.
  • Being the go-to contact for all matters with the Students Union ranging from navigating form submissions to liaising with them whilst on tight deadlines and managing finances.

My strengths in organization, communication, and teamwork make me a strong fit for the Sponsorship officer role. I am confident that with my skills and experience, I can create outstanding experiences for all members of Hindu society.

Krish Chundawat

I am standing for the sponsorship officer role because I am excited about the opportunity to develop my negotiation skills and build connections with businesses while promoting the Hindu Society at UCL. I have a strong interest in event planning and fundraising, and believe that serving as a sponsorship officer would allow me to use these skills to benefit the society and its members. Additionally, I see this as a chance to make a meaningful impact on the society by securing sponsorships that will enable the group to host more events and activities for its members. Finally, I am motivated by the prospect of collaborating with other members of the society and the wider UCL community to create a vibrant and inclusive environment that celebrates Hindu culture and values.
