Celine He

As a representative, I can voice the concerns and ideas of fellow students, working towards positive changes and improvements. I have the chance to make a positive impact on the overall experience of first-year engineering students and my efforts can contribute to a more engaging and supportive community for everyone. I can contribute to building a strong sense of community among my fellow first-year engineering students, possibly by helping with organising more events and opportunities for engineering students.

Serving as a representative provides a fantastic opportunity for me to develop and showcase my leadership skills, having previously been Head Student at my Sixth Form. I'll have the chance to lead and organise events, represent my peers, and work with other members of the society. Being a representative also allows me to connect with faculty, staff, and students, both within and outside my department of engineering (Civil). Networking with all these people can be valuable for future academic and career opportunities.

This role can help enhance a variety of skills such as communication, organisation, teamwork, and problem-solving. These skills are not only valuable in academic settings but are also transferable to many professional situations. Obtaining this position allows for personal growth and development; it challenges me to step out of my comfort zone, take on responsibilities, and adapt to new situations.

Kar Yee Lee

Hi Everyone I am Kelly and I'm running for Engineering Society: First Year Representative because I'm passionate about engineering and fostering a vibrant community. My journey into this field has ignited a deep commitment to supporting fellow first-year students.

I see opportunities to create a warmer, more connected community within our society. I want us to have events where we can bond beyond lectures, and mentorship programs where we can support each other through the ups and downs of our academic and personal lives.

Being your voice matters to me. I want to listen to your ideas, worries, and dreams. I promise to be there to represent us and make sure everyone feels heard and valued in our society.

I've been part of teams before, leading and working together towards common goals. I believe in the power of teamwork and know that together, we can achieve incredible things.

I'm excited about the chance to contribute and make our engineering experience even better. Let's create a community where we're not just students, but a family supporting each other's growth and success.

Rai Bhattacharjee

Hi, my name is Rai and I am studying Chemical Engineering. I am running for first year representative because I am passionate about  creating a non judgemental and inspiring environment that is rich in support, guidance and inclusivity for engineering students. I strongly value the importance addressing any issues that students are facing to the department, whist ensuring that student confidentiality is maintained. As a first year rep, my top priority is your voice.

Engineering is an intensive course, and the transition to a new teaching environment may be difficult to adjust. Hence, I am committed to hearing from you to proactively pursue improvements to the programme on a regular basis, ensuring that you have all the tools to fully reach your potential and succeed as an engineer, and beyond.

If you vote for me, I will strive to use the organisational and leadership skills that I have developed ,from being the Head of Logistics of Cambridge Model United Nations, to plan more guest speaker and workshop events that are suited to your career and research interests. Additionally, I intend to give guidance on the best revision strategies for those that need it. I feel that I am in a good position to do this as I was an academic scholar and design engineering scholar in school, and have tutored A level maths to students. Lastly, I plan to offer you to take part in surveys that will enable us to view your student experience and identify key areas where improvements are needed.

Afreeda Rahman

I am a local student living in London, however I have lived abroad for many years and so I am able to empathise with the experiences of both home and international students.
I am studying chemical engineering and am keen on the role of first year representative for the engineering society.

I am standing because I believe I am a confident speaker and excellent communicator and so will effectively be able to hear and voice the concerns of my fellow peers.

I perceive myself to be hardworking and determined with good time management skills that will enable me to strive and succeed at making this role my top priority and carry out my duties to the highest standard.

I take pride in being a team player and promise to ensure every voice is heard and that we are able to come up with solutions to our concerns that are pleasing and beneficial to us all.

In the real-world, engineers of all disciplines work together and build connections and so I am interested in helping to create more opportunities for all of us to build those connections and relationships from earlier on through both social events and more career-based opportunities.

I urge you to consider me as your representative as I believe together we can maximise our experience as engineering students at UCL.
