Pei Wen Lim

Hi everyone! I'm Pei Wen, a second-year Social Science with Data Science student.

I'm running for Events Director at the Data Visualisation Society because I believe in the power of effective data visualisation in conveying complex ideas, and I want to bring engaging and impactful events to our community.

As the Events Director I will:

  • Try my best to reach out to industry experts and professionals to bring insightful talks and panel discussions to our events.
  • Organise hackathons for our member to apply their skills in real-world scenarios and showcase their talent and creativity.
  • Create social gatherings with fun games and collaborate with other societies to provide more networking opportunities.

By organising a wider variety of events, I will ensure that every member, regardless of their level of expertise, can enhance their data visualisation skills. Also, I promise to always listen to the opinions and suggestions of members in planning future events.

Thank you for considering me for this role, and I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to the Data Visualisation Society! ✨🤍

Khanh Trinh

Hi! My name is Khanh and I am running to be your Events Director.

I think Data Visualisation is incredibly diverse in nature and powerful in its applications. The events we hold should reflect that!

If elected, I would like to provide a holistic experience through events that capture the intricacies of creating engaging visualisations (that are foundationally strong, of course) and inspire us through stories and experiences of experts within the field.

Most importantly, I want you, the members, to enjoy these events! And so, I will communicate and gauge your interest for any potential events!

I would like to hold more workshops showcasing the vast breadth and depth of available tools to visualisers. This could range from introductory sessions to dip your toes into a new method, or more advanced ones for those wanting to dive deeper. From Power BI, to R and even more Flourish sessions, the possibilities seem endless.

As for talks from experts, I would like to push for the range of disciplines to be wide. Not only does this reflect the diverse backgrounds of the society's members, but it would also show that inspiration can come from anywhere, and new perspectives on the same techniques is a key part of this!

If you have gotten this far, thank you for reading, and I hope you'll vote for me!
