Green Shoots Foundation is a UK registered charity with projects in SE Asia, particularly Cambodia, where we operate a rural development community space to introduce sustainable livelihood options such as nature-friendly agriculture, social business and environmental stewardship.

In January 2022 we were approached by Stop the Shame. to pilot a project, GreenFlow.

Stop The Shame. was created in response to the global need for safe, non-toxic, environmentally sustainable sanitary pads and comprehensive menstrual education, with the aim of empowering women to make better menstrual choices.

Our project GreenFlow intends to develop a natural, biodegradable sanitary pad using water hyacinth and other natural materials- this prototype will then be used as a tool for menstrual health education in Cambodia during May 2023.

In June 2022 we created our initial prototype and our aim for this one-off volunteering opportunity is to help build on the same prototype, but focus more on functionality, safety and disposal.

Our ultimate goal with the project is to create a social enterprise that will support Cambodian women and Green Shoots Foundation by providing women with a safe, healthy and sustainable alternative to toxic, plastic-based sanitary pads. However, to get to that stage, we need to have worked on a suitable prototype and a way to ensure quality assurance for the product.

We have organised this one-off volunteering opportunity to help us with research and development in relation to the project. This will include Fundraising opportunities, materials research and improving on the our Life Cycle Assessment methodology.
