Bright Futures UK
Bright Futures UK was set up with the mission to support young people who are forced to take time out from education due to medical circumstances. We aim to support young people by providing programmes that bridge the gap between illness and normality. Programmes are available for individuals of ages 5-24 fighting both physical and mental health illnesses. At Bright Futures UK, we understand each…
Description

Bright Futures UK works with young people who have been forced to take time out from education due to chronic illness. We provide programmes to help stimulate learning in addition to having a social aspect that offers respite to isolation these young people face due to their unfortunate circumstances.

We are urgently looking for a warm and energetic volunteer Geography tutor with academic qualifications (GCSE and above) to provide educational support and a fun, safe space for these young people. Tutoring experience is not essential as full training is given. Our sessions also are all currently online.

The young people we work with have missed so many experiences in school which we take for granted. The time you can offer to help fill in those missed periods is invaluable to their development. Your sessions will be fully supported by Bright Futures UK staff – from questions or queries, resources or materials or just to bounce an idea off the team, we’re here to help.

We’re looking forward to working with you to help our young people reach their true potential!

Duties
  • Developing a supportive, trustworthy and friendly relationship with a young person with illness who requires social support.
  • Engaging with and teaching a young person on a one-to-one basis to help catch them up on their studies.
  • Provide a young person with a safe space where they can increase their self-confidence, and have fun with them in order to help them progress.

Who will the volunteers be working with?
We work with children and young people from the age of 5 up to 24 who are fighting physical and mental health illnesses, whether that be long term or chronic illnesses.
Training
Volunteers will receive a welcome induction training session, where they will be introduced to the charity and we will further discuss what the role entails. The second part of the training will be a safeguarding session, which will involve learning how to work with vulnerable children. Support from your programme coordinators will be ongoing and accessible. We will also provide you with Safeguarding Level 1 & 2 and a DBS check free of charge.

Time commitment

We're looking for a commitment starting from as little as 1 hour per week. Times are flexible around your other commitments.
