Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
The London Legacy Development Corporation is responsible for delivering one of the most important Olympic legacy promises made in the original London 2012 Games bid. This pledge concerns the physical legacy of the Games - the long-term planning, development, management and maintenance of the Park and its impact on the surrounding area after the London 2012 Games. Our Parklife is a Community…
Description

Mobile Garden provides a valuable community growing space with a programme of supervised activities throughout the seasons for local residents, schools and community groups.  We'd love for UCL students to apply to support us by opening the garden in east London through May as Garden Rep volunteers.

Our Mobile Garden is a moveable ‘pop-up’ community growing space and is designed to be ‘non-dig’ and wholly moveable to enable short term occupation of pre-development sites and enhancements to other spaces.  Working with Groundwork London, Our Parklife are keen to involve volunteers throughout May and give full training and support.

Duties

Getting involved and setting up the mobile garden with other volunteers on Thursday afternoons through May at Hackney Bridge:

We currently have gardening community sessions set up and would love your support:

Thursday 9th May – 2pm-4pm

Growing tropical fruit and veg! Planting sweet potatoes, ginger, turmeric and a tamarillo tree in our polytunnel as well as sowing avocados, dates and watermelons and planting out tomatoes and chillies.

Thursday 16th May – 5pm-7pm

Companion planting! Planting the three sisters crops (corn, beans and squash) and learning about this ancient companion planting method. We will also be decorating signs for the garden.

Thursday 23rd May – 2pm-4pm

Pond planting! Planting native aquatic plants in our pond as well as making trellises for vines and climbers.

Thursday 30th May – 5pm-7pm
