Maria Bogdanova

Hi, I’m Maria.

I joined the salsa society at the start of this year and can honestly say that the members, committee, and teachers here make for the most relaxed, fun, and supportive community I have had the pleasure of being part of at UCL. I’ve enjoyed it so much that I decided I wanted to give back to the society and be a part of ensuring its continued smooth operation next year, in the ways that I can.

For this reason, I’ve decided to run for the position of treasurer.

As a second-year chemical engineering student, I have a range of skills that I believe would help me succeed in the role:

  • I’m used to analysing data and have good attention to detail
  • I am proficient in using the whole suite of Microsoft software, including excel
  • my communication skills have been strengthened through the group projects, societies, and volunteering I have taken part in

I also have some experience with making arrangements with external organisations from reaching out to companies to organise insight/ work experience opportunities, and working with department staff on an initiative to support incoming first years last summer.

In conclusion, I would love to contribute to the salsa society as treasurer, and I’m committed to the continued running and organisation of this excellent society!

Ilia Albamonte-Sianni

Hi, my name is Ilia and I am a second year Psychology with Education student! Deciding to start salsa nearly 2 years ago was undoubtedly the best decision I have made, and it has greatly shaped my university journey. As a member of the committee this year, and having dedicated my time and effort to engage with salsa sessions and in the running of the society, I would love to be part of the team for yet another year!

As treasurer I will ensure to maintain a high standard of upkeep regarding the society’s finances. I will also guarantee the funds are managed efficiently and in a way that provides society members with maximum opportunities. Having already been treasurer this year, I am familiar with the role and of the general running of the society.

I am a trustworthy and cooperative person whose organisation and communication skills will allow me to work closely with the other members of the committee. As someone who truly cares about the society, I hope to implement a fair role to form a positive change and for this reason I am confident l would suit the role of the treasurer for yet another year! :)

Ellie Sharma

Hi! I’m Ellie, and I’m currently a 2nd year Natural Sciences student. Joining the Salsa Society has given me a completely different perspective on university, and I can see its effect first-hand on others too! I'd love to take on a more active role within the salsa community, and help to keep the passion for salsa going for another year!

Since my degree is half maths (and stats), I'm not too bad at number crunching and keeping to sharp deadlines either. By taking on the responsibility of treasurer, I hope to bring my attention to detail, organisational and analytical skills to the role so that everything runs smoothly. I have previous experience working in audit through a virtual internship which specifically involved checking financial reports and flagging misstatements. I am therefore aware and well-equipped to deal with anything that gets thrown at me!

As well as carrying out all the essential tasks in this role, I would also think about incorporating a system for members to propose budget requests for events and activities, promoting democratic decision-making in financial matters. I am well aware of how sensitive the concept of money can be, and therefore would like to contribute to fostering an inclusive environment within Salsa Soc.

Managing finances may not be as glamourous as being on the dance floor, but I think it's just as important in ensuring that our society has all the resources it needs to continue organising major events, workshops and socials for everyone!
