As the 1s finally got relegated from South Prem, it seems the natural progression to give up my dreams of high-level hockey and throw myself into the far more prestigious and important element of university sport: the socials.

Going into 4th year, I've seen my fair share of socials, I have a comprehensive knowledge of the rules (much to the detriment of anyone I know external to the HC), the games occupy too much of my brain, and I have an entire section of my wardrobe dedicated to themes (pictured).

I reckon having an older member of the club as social sec will be beneficial to reinforce tradition, as well as ensure authority. Much to my surprise I’ve been told I’m “intimidating” which could work to my advantage here (though I’m actually a rlly nice person I promise x).

Given my highly enviable lack of a hangover, I would be able to put my Thursday mornings to good use writing the social post for the next week ASAP, allowing for optimal theme prep.

Having lived with a social sec for the first 2 weeks of term, I am aware of the vast amounts of organisation and admin required for this role. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a top Microsoft Excel fan (not an ad), so I would make some fire spreadsheets. I'd look to have families as good as sorted before trials as well as aim to have more family socials in general, especially in 1st term to aid our favourite word: integration. Similar thing with ball, + who knows, maybe this could be the year we bring back Loop for afters?

Sofia Boisvert

Hi, I’m Sofia, also known as the resident wanker of the 3s, the one who takes 5 minutes to chop a drink, and cannot hack her gin shot. Yes, I am the fresher who chunned in 6 different cubicles at ball so as not to get her dress dirty whilst being honoured with the, “wanker of the season” award…soz Marriott. These experiences have prepared me for the ultimate role… Social Sec. I’m a fiend for the hot goss on Thursday mornings and would distribute this accordingly. I love a good social, INtegration with the Men’s club (humbling Jansen and Alastair for their poor chat). I even love Scala so much I’ve ventured into its depths, stumbled upon its medical room and made it back up to witness the unruly PDA exhibited by our ones and only.

Next year, we’re talking bigger socials, better Scala attendance, bolder facepaint. Themes such as, “Princess and the Pea/frog”, “Shrek and Fiona”, and “Smurfs and Smurfettes”, enforced. The social post, sent out on Facebook in timely fashion. Though ultimately, the core of our club are the friendships we form, and as Social Sec, I wish to promote this aspect next season.

Vote for me for Social Sec!

Freya Morse

As I’m sure no one is surprised to hear by now, I am wanting to be social sec next year.

My commitment to the club and my love for Wednesday nights make me fully equipped to organise themes, harass freshers, and call out all the Scala mischief IN those Facebook paragraphs.

When it came to deciding what committee position I wanted to go for, I knew social sec was the right fit for me, and that it was also very important for me to follow IN Vanessa’s footsteps and have another Scot IN the role (only fair).

Come raIN or shINe, you will see me every Wednesday nailing the themes and getting far too drunk for phINeas to the poINt where I can’t even tell some of the mens club apart (I’m sorry but they all look so similar).

Not only did I wIN best 3’s fresher at ball, but I am also the champ of the GuINness run for my impressive chop, a skill which I could brINg to committee next year.

I don’t just love hockey for the Wednesday nights however. It has allowed me to INtegrate beyond my team to the other girls as well as the men (crucial for getting that Thursday morning gossip) and has given me some great friendships that I am very grateful to the club for.

When it comes to what I could brINg to the table as social sec, I have lots of new ideas for hockey next year. New themes such as 3-legged race, anythINg but clothes, and dressing as the last person you got with, as well as some new punishments for rule-breaking as, lets face it, I thINk we’re all a bit tired of press-ups.

Although I am sad to see so many of the
