Having a media presence is not only important at the beginning of the year in encouraging prospective members to join, but also in keeping active members of the UCLWHC community up to date on all events happening in the club. I think this year has been great in posting information not only about matches (inc. line ups, results and pictures) but also in terms of talking about our sponsor, charity events and important events like Pride and Black History month. I would be very diligent in improving and continuing to keep up with this posting, and having experience in managing both my school’s hockey, and a children’s charity instagram, I understand the importance of having a sleek, informative and active social media account. Therefore, I would continue using the same theme that Lucy has used this year to seamlessly keep up the same image and post weekly roundups with photos from trainings, matches and socials from that week. Furthermore, I understand that this year there have been some difficulties with messages getting lost in DM’s due to quite a large number of people having access to the instagram, so this year I would try and limit the people with access even further to try and ensure I can keep track of all communications and reply quickly in one continuous voice. Lastly, I think the TikTok has been a great addition to the WHC club social media and I would love to continue growing the platform in conjunction with the instagram to show the dynamics and fun side of the club.

Dion Tan

Hi there my name is Dion and I am a member of the mighty 3’s, who are indeed getting promoted, if you have not heard yet! I already spend a vast majority of my life on my phone, so I thought why not put it into some good use, i.e. promoting the wonderful uclwhc.

As we all know, our current media sec Lucy has done an incredible job by keeping everyone in the loop, posting frequent match updates, player profiles, raising awareness for events such as pride and black history month. I intend to keep up all the hard work that has gone towards our club Instagram, capturing all the Wednesday action shots to bless our viewers on a Thursday morning. I would also like to channel other media platforms such as TikTok, which I believe has an enormous potential to support already strong media presence.  I think most people can say that when you decide to join UCLWHC social media is your first point of contact, therefore I want to showcase our club in the most friendly and welcoming way to encourage more freshers to join. Whether if this is from making sure all essential information is distributed few weeks in advance, or hosting Q&A sessions with current members, I want future members to know that the heart of this sport revolves around the importance of community, which I think we can all agree is one of the best things about being a member of uclwhc.

Ellie Gillies

So, I have been a fresher this year and I know I can speak for a lot of the freshers of the club that the social media was a really big part of getting us all to join. So quick story time at the beginning of this year, I was unsure whether to choose between hockey or netball as my sport (socking I know) and I have to say it was the social media, the regular posting and information that helped me decide to choose hockey (also the people of course).

If I were voted media sec, as well as posting frequent team sheets and training times, I want to place the player's personality more on the Instagram page such as doing vlogs of a day in the life of a hockey player, teams take overs and more video documenting our training sessions, charity, and fitness events, working closely with the other members of the committee to showcase everyone’s hard work on our social media. In terms of advertising the club to new members, I think posting the highlights of this year, including socials and charity events, as well as matches would be really beneficial I also want to link the Tik Tok and Instagram more and to reach more audiences and new members into the club.

In terms of my skills to take on this task, I do study art history and know what looks good. During my gap year, I also took an art foundation course so I have skills in Photoshop and editing and have experience running the art foundations course so don’t worry the Instagram page will still be looking fire
