Pei Yee Yu

As a fully-sponsored scholarship student who attended local state schools and subsequently a low performing private institution with the help of financial aid, I was intimidated at the start of the academic year upon realizing the disparity between my own and the wider Malaysian student body's socio-economic background. I found myself unable to relate to their prestigious boarding school endeavors, experiences of studying abroad all their life (often having lived in several big cities) and posh international schools. With this, I found myself somewhat behind as many others' "international" experience gave them a head start in navigating the complex and fast-paced social life of UCL and London itself. Their prestigious education background also granted them a head start in assimilating into the UK's method of teaching and the nature of University workload and learning.

As a Vice President and Welfare Officer, I thus hope to be able to provide support to not just the wider Malaysian community but also those who may not fall into the "majority" categories of the demographic, whether it be through race, gender, class, socio-economic background, the presence of physical and/or mental disabilities, and more.

I also intend to continue the ongoing tasks of vice president drawing from my past leadership experiences as a project manager for an NGO, my high school's student council, debate coach, Human Capital and Internal Affairs Director of AMEU and more.

Ong Hsien Jun

I'm passionate about serving my fellow Malaysians and want to make a positive impact on their lives. I have plenty of experience and leadership skills under my belt. Throughout my academic career, I've always strived for excellence and have excelled in team environments as I am great at communicating with others and collaborating to achieve common goals. I'm excited about the opportunity to serve as Vice President of the Malaysian Society and to implement these initiatives to improve the family system, sporting social activities, and interconnectivity between Malaysian societies across different London universities. These efforts will help create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all Malaysian students and promote a sense of unity within the Malaysian community. With my energy, enthusiasm, and dedication, I'm confident that I can make a real difference in the Malaysian community at UCL.

Tunku Ayra Farzana

Hi everyone! My name is Ayra, I’m a 1st year studying Comparative Literature with Arabic, and I am applying for the role of Vice President and Welfare Officer.

As someone with a passion for learning, I’ve found that being a part of MSOC these past two semesters has truly been a validating experience. From taking on new roles as Events Director and Vice Organising Chairperson in the RD Program, to meeting my own little ‘found family’ in the bustling city that is London, MSOC has been a great source of energy for me and I hope to take this role as an opportunity to continue applying and contributing myself within this community.

What I plan to achieve with this role

  • Assist in managing events with the rest of the BOD
  • Contribute my own ideas and sense of creativity
  • Further encourage the extensive benefits of the JomMakan card
  • Improve the use of the MSOC Family System
  • Overall, provide a strong support system for you and prove MSOC’s worth as a second home for the next generation of UCL MSOC students

Why I am the right candidate for this role

  • Not only am I an avid learner, but I love problem solving and challenging my potential
  • I am enthusiastic in everything I put my heart into
  • And, last but not least, I am resilient in what I choose to accomplish

I hope to meet you all in the next two years to come, and I cannot wait to see what MSOC grows into. Here is my complete manifesto if you're interested to see what else I can offer.

Take care everyone, and jumpa lagi!
