Firstly, I want to thank K-pop society for being such a diverse, open and friendly society.

K-pop society has done so much for me this past year so I want to give something back by standing for Welfare Officer.

What do I offer? Everything a good welfare officer should do including offering weekly welfare one-to-one support, writing mail to the wonderful people in the society and writing minutes. I will always listen to you first, and then provide help or support. I am also flexible with my timings which means I’ll be able to help out with many aspects of the society.

Why should you vote for me? Firstly, I’m approachable. I will always greet you with a smile on my face. Secondly, I’m reliable. I will find time to do any required task. Thirdly, and most importantly, I love discussing things. Positive or negative, I will always offer an open ear. I also spend a LOT of time on my phone so I offer quick responses.

I feel as though I am ready for this role due to the experience I have. I am currently a Living at Home Network lead and attend meetings to organise socials. Additionally, I spend a lot of my time writing for fun. I am a fast typer as well which is a highly useful skill for writing minutes. Now the fun bit, why do I love K-pop? It all started when I was younger in my room listening to ‘The Eye’ by INFINITE. Suddenly, I was taken to a new world with stunning visuals, dance and music and I fell in love. KARD and BTS have my heart! I hope you consider voting for me.

Mariam Karimi

Hi!! I’m Mariam and I’m currently second year PPE student! I’ve been in K-Pop Soc for nearly 2 years now, and I’ve always loved it. It’s by far my favourite society at UCL! I’ve decided that I want to play a bigger role in the society next year and run for committee (after all I spend nearly all my free time at kpop classes haha).

Most people know me as an energiser - I tend to look at things positively and try my best to keep everyone’s energy up. Welfare officer is a position that interests me as I want to be a person people look to when they need support, and I have some training in safeguarding already. I would love to support the society and its committee in all aspects, whether it concerns mental health, or any issue you wish to talk to someone about and connect you with the right sources!

Bianne Che

Hello! I am Bianne :) A 2nd-year Biomedical Engineering student and your current Welfare Officer of K-POP Society.

I am running for Welfare Officer again for the next academic year as I enjoy getting along with people in the society. Everyone is friendly and supportive and I hope that we can also have this inclusive environment next year. I will work hard again to continue to provide a platform for members to escape from all the annoying school works and have a bit of time to relax, make friends, and have fun.

Throughout the year, I realised points that I could have done better as a Welfare Officer so if I am chosen, I will make sure that everyone's voice is listened and to provide more mental support and benefits to the members of the society. I will also continue to help out the whole committee (as an all-rounder) so that the society is running smoothly.

Yuen Yeng Cheong

The position of Welfare Officer is one that is underlooked within the society, but I strongly believe that its impact is far-reaching.  By being responsible for organising events and activities that promote mental well-being, as well as providing a safe space for members to ever discuss any personal issues, I believe I can have a direct impact on the society's members. Due to my optimistic and cheerful disposition, I am capable of making a positive impact and contributing to the overall well-being of the society's members. Holding this position is also a great way to gain valuable experience that can be used in the future. As a welfare officer, I will have the opportunity to develop my organizational skills, as well as my ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with others.  I believe that this will be largely beneficial to the development of my character as well, and I will be able to learn and gain invaluable experience through holding the position of welfare officer.

For the past few months, KPOP Soc has genuinely been my safe space when I felt really lost and homesick from being in a new country for the first time. It is largely down to the people who I've met as well as the comforting and supportive environment created by the current committee. I can only hope to emulate the same atmosphere if I am elected as Welfare Officer, and to create a space where people can bond and foster tight-knit relationships as I have done this past year.
