I'm standing for Screenings and Socials Officer because I think Film Soc is an amazing way to meet new friends and potential collaborators for projects. I think it's important to make everyone feel as welcome as possible by hosting socials and screenings regularly, which is something I'm hoping to be a part of! I also want to screen films from a wide range of genres and cultures in order to reflect the diverse student body of UCL.
As a former member of an events committee, I'm good at organising socials, screenings, themed nights, etc. Most importantly, I love getting people together so that we can all talk about our love for cinema. As a first year student, Film Soc events are always the ones I look forward to the most out of any society, so I want to continue that next year!
Hello everyone! :)
My name is William, and I've been a member of FilmSoc (UCL's best society let's be honest) for the past couple of years, which I have genuinely loved thanks to the amazing people and past committees.
My Resolution for Screenings:
I'm standing this year to increase participation and diversity within the society, which I aim to do by empowering audiences to have a more frequent voice and choice in screening selection (e.g. proposing films and voting) but also by incorporating films from countries, cultures and genres which haven't been explored as much in the past, whilst working in tandem with cultural societies across UCL.
My Resolution for Social Events:
Having met some amazing people in the bigger social events organized in the past, to repeat their success would be a top priority. I would also try to make smaller social events (cinema outings, group activities after workshops etc.) more regular and accessible, by incorporating them with other events and activities within the FilmSoc Schedule.
General Resolution:
I have found that working with fellow cultural societies has only increased the attendance, variety and overall fun of both screenings and social events, so it has become one of my general goals to collaborate more often with them if elected!
I'm next to campus most of the time so if you ever want to meetup or if you have any questions/suggestions I'm but a text away!
Hope to see and meet all of you soon :)!
Thank you for your time!!
Film & TV society is a wonderful thing when it comes to bringing people together as there can be an event here for every type of person interested in film. Wether you're an outgoing filmmaker coming to a networking event to seek out collaborators, or a more introverted cinephile who wants to explore & appreciate new films at our screenings, or anyone else in between, Film soc social events are great & important opportunities to meet your kind of people in the society.
I’d love to join the Film soc committee to organise fun & welcoming events to make this large society, where it is sometimes hard to find your place, easy for everyone. I will listen to any & all interests/opinions that members have about what they want from social events. Films they'd love to screen, recommendations for activities or excursions they'd enjoy and even some input on party playlists. - I’m just warning everyone now there will always be ABBA on there & we will all love it- Furthermore, having experienced a fair bit of the production & social elements of Film society this past year I’d love to host more social events that link the two so that filmmakers as well as cinephiles can connect in a relaxed environment.
I can attest to the merits of Film society social events when it comes to bringing people together as over this past year I've been lucky enough to meet & become close to a variety of other members. I believe I can help new members find their place and & people in Film
