Hugo Ferreira

There are so many things at university to enjoy, what’s the point in worrying! University can be one of the most stressful parts of anyone’s life. With looming deadlines and examinations constantly around the corner, your welfare is constantly on the line. My name is Hugo and I’ve experienced 4 years of this already. For those who know me, you’ll know that I have an overwhelmingly positive outlook on life, always seeing the bright things in any situation with a smile on my face.

I have been on the MedTech committee for 2 years in the past holding positions including Vice-President 2 years ago. These have been highlights of my university career. From organising pizza socials to organising one of the biggest online university conferences during a pandemic, I have thoroughly enjoyed myself. I will be going into my 5th year of medicine next year and I would love to be your welfare officer for the 2023/24 year. If elected I would hold welfare drop-in sessions on campus regularly, have a variety of interesting social media welfare posts/ stories, and be present at events with a welcoming smile for easy access to support. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me on [email protected].

Sofia Anyi Oliviero

Hello! My name is Sofia Anyi Oliviero and I am really excited to run for Welfare officer of MedTech society. Being a university student certainly comes with its own sphere of challenges, especially in such a busy and academically rigorous environment like UCL. I therefore believe this is a truly significant role, as I would love to provide a helping hand to ensure the best systems offering mental health and well-being support are implemented within the society and among its members.

Having attended Medtech’s society’s socials and events this year, it is clear that the club has cultivated an encouraging and informative environment, which I believe is so important for students.

Previous experience as a Well-being student mentor during my years at sixth form make me feel equipped and confident to take on this role. I have been involved in organizing activities to help new students feel more comfortable with their peers as well as organising mental health awareness and fundraiser events.

As Welfare Officer:

-By nature, I hope my warm and engaging personality would encourage people to feel comfortable coming to me to discuss a concern or to help signpost them to a professional

-Strong communication with UCL mental health services to ensure members are aware of who to reach out to and the support available

-Delivering a series of Diversity and Inclusion talks (LGBTQ+/ BAME/Disability/etc.) within the sphere of the MedTech industry to ensure all members of the society feel welcomed

-Focus on maintaining an open environment

Henry Htet

Hi there! I'm Henry and I would love to play the role of Welfare Officer in Kinesis Magazine. Being a very open and approachable person, I want to make sure that everyone feels welcomed and comfortable to come up to me to talk about their struggles in the society (and even your achievements!). I will make sure to interact with each and everyone, both the old and the new members, for reassurance and I am more than happy to listen to any problems anyone has which will be taken seriously. In addition, I would love to hear suggestions from members on how their society experience at Kinesis will make it even more enjoyable than it is by discussing alongside other members of the committee. I am hoping that everyone in the society are being engaged with each other and making friends because in the end, we're just here for a creative and a safe space to have fun. All in all, I want to guarantee that everyone is enjoying their time whenever and wherever during their short uni life! :)

Niharika Kalra

Hello, my name is Niharika Kalra, and I am a second-year biomedical sciences student. My passion lies within the MedTech industry, and my goal is to create an inclusive, supportive, and engaging environment where all society members can thrive both academically and personally.

I will prioritize the mental health and well-being of our society members by organizing workshops, seminars, on stress management, coping strategies, and self-care. This can be done along with the university’s mental health services to ensure society members have access to the resources they need. Furthermore, to promote inclusivity and understanding within the MedTech Society I’d host workshops and training sessions on topics that would make all members feel welcomed, valued, and respected. Lastly, I believe feedback is key to success so I will regularly conduct feedback sessions or anonymous surveys to gauge society members' needs, concerns, and suggestions, and will use this information to continuously improve the support and resources offered by the society.

I am committed to using my skills and experience to ensure that every member of the MedTech Society feels supported and has the resources they need to thrive. Vote for me, Niharika Kalra, as your Welfare Officer, and let's work together to create a vibrant, inclusive, and successful MedTech Society!

Bilal Latif

I am standing for the position of welfare officer because I strongly believe in the importance of student well-being. As a welfare officer, I would have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of my fellow students. By providing support, resources, and a listening ear, I can help create a supportive environment where students feel valued and understood. I am passionate about mental health advocacy and believe that through this role, I can contribute to fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere at MedTech UCL.

Another reason I am standing for the welfare officer position is to develop essential interpersonal and leadership skills. Engaging with diverse students, faculty, and administrators enhances my communication, empathy, and problem-solving abilities. Organising well-being events strengthens my organisational and leadership skills, making a positive impact in the MedTech UCL community and my future endeavours.

I also find personal fulfillment in helping others and making a positive impact. As a welfare officer, I can support and empower students facing challenges, providing a safe space, resources, and guidance. Contributing to a nurturing environment where students thrive academically, emotionally, and personally is deeply rewarding. Taking on this role, I believe I can make a difference and foster student well-being.
