Lilly Luu

Hi everyone! My name is Lilly and I am excited to run for Head of Events. 

Witnessing the disconnect between international responses and tones on the ongoing Israel-Palestinian war makes me interested in how diplomacy can be enacted through a stream of channels to bring a ceasefire and a permanent resolution. Being well-informed about global political and economic challenges therefore empowers my ability to be nimble in organising events that the UCL community cares about. Working with the Careers Officer, I also want to introduce events such as interview skills workshops that demystify career journeys into diplomacy and related areas. I aim to create platforms that not only educate our members about diplomatic principles but also provide opportunities for networking and hands-on experience. This calls for greater collaboration between Society heads and with other networks to tackle every facet of diplomacy but also create chill social sessions. 

My role embodies collaborative leadership and creative thinking to spark outreach. For example, I want to create initiatives that are centric to our ambitious society members such as an international affairs blog that encourages students to write and think critically.  As a previous Senior Editor of my sixth form’s Economic Journal, I would be interested to lead on this, leveraging my developed skills of editing, organisation and communication as well as the network of the committee.
