POSTPONED - WE WILL BE IN TOUCH WITH THE RESCHEDULED DATE SOON

We are happy to announce a collaborative photowalk between the Photo Society and the Bartlett Urban Planning Society! Tying in with this month's competition theme of “Rhythms of the City”.

Our contemporary urban environments contain many rhythms. The ubiquity of various rhythms and their deep entrenchment in the urban lifestyle cause us, as urban dwellers, to overlook them. Every breath we take and every step we make is rhythmic. Conducted by creatures of rhythm, it is not hard to see (or hear) that cities beat to the tempo of their inhabitants. These urban rhythms give rise to specific forms, configurations and relations of space, time, interaction and mobility.

Rhythms can most easily be found in repetitive activities, sounds and smells in a city. For example, the pedestrian rhythm of the urban crowd (eg. commuters, consumers or urban outcasts) can be indicative of the ongoing tensions and competition between different ideologies and behaviors that shape the urban environment.

Competition Challenge

Instead of a reproductive force like a metronome, we invite entries that uncover rhythms within the city that might otherwise escape our attention, and rethink them as a force that is both generative and creative.

Open to members from both societies! Make sure to get a free ticket and come along this weekend. Please select which society you belong to from the drop down menu under the tickets section.
