Hi, I’m Guneeka and I’d like to run for welfare officer! I think at the heart of UCL Indian Dance Society is a close-knit family of dance enthusiasts with an innovative space for them to learn different Indian dance styles. The community in Indian Dance Society is filled with the most amazing people, and next year I would love to be a friendly face you can talk and dance with.

I’ve been learning Bharatanatyam since I was three and have always been interested in learning other Indian dance styles and I want to create a similar environment for our community. Having recently participated in Garba at Rangeela and before that Bharatanatyam and Garba for King’s Jhalak while simultaneously choreographing for our Christmas showcase here, I’ve developed crucial organisational skills required to be our welfare officer. Further, I’ve choreographed dances for over 50 students between the ages of 5-18 throughout the last three years for events attended by over 2000 people, highlighting my management skills.

I want to support the president and treasurer as the welfare officer of UCL Indian dance society, by organising interesting new collaborations with other societies within UCL but also across other universities such as Kings and QM. Holding external workshops and strengthening our volunteering aspect will help connect people to dance! After attending many of the classes and workshops this year and meeting everyone who shares a love for Indian Dance, I’d love to be a part of committee!
