Guneeka Chitkara

Hi, I’m Guneeka and I’d like to run for welfare officer! I think at the heart of UCL Indian Dance Society is a close-knit family of dance enthusiasts with an innovative space for them to learn different Indian dance styles. The community in Indian Dance Society is filled with the most amazing people, and next year I would love to be a friendly face you can talk and dance with.

I’ve been learning Bharatanatyam since I was three and have always been interested in learning other Indian dance styles and I want to create a similar environment for our community. Having recently participated in Garba at Rangeela and before that Bharatanatyam and Garba for King’s Jhalak while simultaneously choreographing for our Christmas showcase here, I’ve developed crucial organisational skills required to be our welfare officer. Further, I’ve choreographed dances for over 50 students between the ages of 5-18 throughout the last three years for events attended by over 2000 people, highlighting my management skills.

I want to support the president and treasurer as the welfare officer of UCL Indian dance society, by organising interesting new collaborations with other societies within UCL but also across other universities such as Kings and QM. Holding external workshops and strengthening our volunteering aspect will help connect people to dance! After attending many of the classes and workshops this year and meeting everyone who shares a love for Indian Dance, I’d love to be a part of committee!

Atharv Meshram

To put things simply, the opportunity to facilitate those pursuing their passions in Indian dance is one I cannot miss. Despite my journey beginning only at the start of 2nd year, I have grown to care about this community very deeply. My commitment to attending all the dance classes stemmed from the hospitable environment in every one; it enabled me to have some of my best uni memories, and it would be nothing but a privilege to create that same environment as Welfare Officer. To welcome and support future members of Indian Dance Society would be my absolute pleasure :)

Sanjana Krishnan

Hey everyone! I’m Sanjana and I’m thrilled to run for welfare officer! As a first-year medic, I’m aware of how vital compassion and empathy are, not only for this role but also throughout life. Volunteering at the Royal Marsden Hospital has honed my time management and communication skills, essential skills for a welfare officer. I know how stressful uni life can be at times, and I’m dedicated to ensuring everyone feels welcome, happy, and supported. I’m also eager to arrange weekly welfare sessions, providing a friendly face and lending an ear (snacks included!) for anyone seeking support.

Collaborating with the social secretary, I aim to promote numerous social events to ensure inclusivity is at the heart of our community, and most importantly to make many new friendships along the way. This opportunity allows me to not only prioritize others' well-being but also enhance my communication skills and empathy for my future healthcare career.

Recently joining the CMUK Marketing team exposed me to platforms like Canva and Postwizz. I intend to use these to create a dedicated well-being page for our society members. This page will offer tips on improving physical health, suggested workout routines, healthy meal plans, and guidance on enhancing mental well-being. I’m also really excited to organise yoga sessions, meditation classes, and enjoyable dance socials to serve as stress-busters and something fun to look forward to!

That’s all from me! Hope I can count on your vote :)

Ruchi Agarwal

Hello! I’m Ruchi, a first year Biochemistry student. If elected as welfare officer I would love to contribute to a space where people connect with one another through dance. Whether it be while dancing to the latest Bollywood trend or a nostalgic classical choreography, I strive to make sure people of all abilities feel welcome and bond with one another. I hope to build an enthusiastic environment where the intimidation of learning new things is easily overcome thanks to great company.

I understand the commitment and importance of this role and can’t wait to be involved in all of the events this coming year. My previous experience in leadership positions has fortified my organisational skills as well as creativity. I am confident that I can help events run smoothly. I aim to connect dancers from all london universities and also lead outreach programs beyond our university in voluntary efforts.

Finally, I appreciate Indian Dance Society for finding a thread that ties us back to our culture in a unique way. I would love to continue the work of the current committee who have not given students a platform not only to connect, but also, to share skills, passion and many fun evenings together. Thank you for reading my manifesto and hope to see you often in the coming year!
