Surendra Rana

Hello there, I’m Surendra, a second-year Geology student!

This year it was great to have participated in the 48hr film challenge; an event where I met new friends and put myself up to a new challenge – but the weekly film screenings really helped me settle here at UCL, as it was a regular pastime I used to do with friends in my hometown that I couldn’t quite find the people nor the time to do in London.

I would love to be elected for this role as it appears like great fun – and my experience with other large societies definitely shows UCL’s social side at its best, as I find the weekly film nights to be a very inclusive part of Film & TV Soc’s schedule that allows them to see new movies with a crowd.

It’d be wonderful to get some occasional audience participation in for deciding movies next year, but if elected I’d be keen on taking on new film cultures and styles (as a lover of ‘world cinema’).

MillaMay Garrow

I am running for Screenings and Socials Producer with the aim of providing diverse opportunities for people to see more films, creating an inclusive and accessible environment for all interested in Film and TV Society. For the past year I have been a committed member of Film Society, attending screenings where I have seen some of my top watches of the year, and beginning my own podcast; the MovieGoers. Through this I have not only met fantastic people, but have learnt the processes and technicalities of Film Society. This experience has improved my organisational skills, positioning me to handle, and excel at the responsibilities that come with this role.

Alongside my time in Film I am the current President of the Institute of the Americas Society. This role has helped my communication skills as I have listened to my peers, prioritising an accessible community for all. I also lead and arrange all society socials, promoting them by running our social media platform and implementing feedback into society events; skills I will transfer into my role in Film Society.

As Screenings and Socials Producer my priorities would be to bring a wide variety of films to UCL from all over the globe, as well as host diverse socials that are accessible to all. Film is very much at the centre of my life; I have built so many friendships and connections through a shared love of movies and would love to use this platform to encourage others to find the same.

Pelin Pala

I'm standing as the Screening and Socials Producer because Film and TV society, especially the socials are what helped me feel at home in my first year in UCL. As a Media student, planning on taking the film pathway next year, I'm very interested in film and tv. I've worked as 2nd Assistant Director on the film society term one film. I appreciate all the socials and screenings which helped me understand film history, develop my own style, meet creatives who are as passionate as me, and give me the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from them. I'm standing to help others benefit from these experiences just like I did.

Amelia Grota

Hey! I’m Amelia and I’m running for the role of Screenings and Socials producer because I’ve seen firsthand the incredible sense of community that our Film and TV society creates and would love to be a part of continuing to create this atmosphere.

I’m eager to organise social events that compliment weekly screenings, providing opportunities for networking, discussion and shared enjoyment in a relaxed environment. In this role, I would aim to enhance the experience of our society members, no matter where your interests lie - be that production, videography, or talking about cinema! The mediums of Film and TV have the ability to inspire, provoke thought, and foster meaningful collaborations within our community, so creating an environment to facilitate this would be my priority!

Henry Milne

I joined Film and TV Society through screenings, my love of film stemming from being a viewer. The screenings gave me the chance to watch the recommendations of cinema buffs or gorgeous films through collaboration with other societies but also a chance to connect with others over impactful scenes, a collective giggle or the snacks brought to share. It is this atmosphere of connection through film I as a Screenings and Social Producer aim to instil tenfold into every event I organise.

As a Social Producer, I would implement more events for the society, from trips to famous filming destinations to group outdoor viewings during the warmer months. Furthermore, I would ensure that festive socials such as Halloween are kept to a highly enjoyable standard for my fellow members. I enjoy the responsibility of hosting and so I know I can apply the same level of passion to events, with my current role as Studio Equipment Manager proving I can be hands-on and active in the society.

As a Screening Producer, I would like to get those outside the committee more involved in the selections of films to ensure newcomers to the society can be inspired like I was. I also believe more collaborations with other societies would benefit the screenings to increase the impact Film and TV Society has across UCL and finding a diverse plethora of films. Knowing and loving how diverse our society is, I want to embrace the multiculturality within the world of film in this role.
