I am running for social secretary because I wish to see more inter-society events, as opposed to individual socials catered to one specific group. I know that I, and many others, would like to meet more people in groups that I am not a part of. I would like to build greater community between all the music societies. For example, there could be a family system in which people from different groups are put together and they get to know each other's musical interests and more!

Hermione Killian-Dawson

One of the highlights of music society for me this year has been getting to know a broad range of people across UCL. They have made my first year experience far richer than it would have been otherwise and I largely met all of them through socials after rehearsal, rather than the brief minutes of chatter in between pieces or in breaks.

I am nominating myself as a social secretary as I wish to enhance others' experiences of music society through creating new friendships and meeting new people in more relaxed social settings.

I enjoy organising events, being very fastidious about my own schedule and time keeping. I look forward to the opportunity of being able to plan society-wide termly socials such as the fantastic boat ball we had earlier this year. I am also considering the idea of a costume ball, with a specific theme, because it inspires the flow of creative juices, more so than a simple black tie event and would be a lot of fun.

Changes and improvements I wish to make:

- Improving communication about informal socials (such as meeting for drinks after rehearsal)

- Collaborate more with our publicity officer, utilising platforms we have such as our Instagram account to improve publicity of social events (particularly informal ones)

- More frequent society-wide socials (for example an equivalent of Wednesday Sports night, but perhaps a little less intense) which would allow more people from different music groups to meet one another

Libby Kay

As a dedicated member of String Orchestra, I am never one to miss a social. My highlight of music society so far has definitely been the boat ball. I hope to continue the work that has been done by the committee this year and deliver many more events that bring together members of different ensembles within Music society. I have really enjoyed the different concert trips this year and would hope to make them more of a regular event. If elected I look forward to working with the other social sec to hopefully create lots of fun events for the society!

Sanjay A Harris

All the socials we have right now (balls, pub trips) are so much fun but it's clear that we lack some sort of range! I want to introduce different sorts of socials - dinners (pizza night, curry night etc), bar/club trips, karaoke, quiz nights!

More importantly, I want to hear from all of you - what do you want to see us do? What do you have the most fun doing?

I think we should aim for more socials that involve much of Music soc, rather than each individual ensemble and a great way to do this is by putting more emphasis on Music society families (I'm in one but have never even met them!)

Most of all I want to make socials accessible for everyone by providing different types of activities - hopefully one will suit you!
