Election post

As Ophthalmology chair, I wish to enable students, across all years, to gain an insight into this fascinating specialty. Sadly, at medical school, we get very little exposure to Ophthalmology so it is important that we provide useful events and resources so students can better understand a career in this field and expand their knowledge further.

This year I thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the Ophthalmology subcommittee. I was responsible for arranging two of the talks, and received positive feedback, proving my ability to organise successful events. Working alongside Yousif, the current chair, showed me the commitment, enthusiasm and drive required to effectively fulfil this role and I believe that I too will be able to demonstrate these qualities.

I would like to continue his efforts, facilitating some of the projects we’d begun planning, including:

  • Mentoring scheme: accessible to all years, utilising our affiliation with Moorfields to enable students to network with leading clinicians, and gain experience shadowing and collaborating on research projects.
  • Lecture series: recruiting doctors from various subspecialties and levels of experience to share their stories and knowledge.
  • Tutorials and e-learning resources/revision guides to supplement these.
  • Interactive workshops to provide a hands-on experience of the specialty.
  • Networking events.

I promise a fruitful year if I’m elected- thank you for your support!
