Hi everyone! My name is Rhiann and I am a third-year medical student currently intercalating in Women’s Health.

As our lives gradually transition to a new normal, it is now more important than ever to take this chance to connect with each other and the wider community. To me, the role of Welfare & Social Officer is not only about being the point of contact for discussion and support, but also about cultivating an environment and creating opportunities that encourage the members of our society to learn and grow. Next year, in addition to hosting student socials to meet regularly, I hope to build onto the current mentorship scheme and organise more events with experts and enthusiasts in the global health discipline to help enhance your network and portfolio.

This year, I was part of the subcommittee for the Universities Allied for Essential Medicines (UAEM) campaign, which tackled inequalities in pharmaceutical access. Through this, I believe I have developed the vital skills of organisation, diligence and effective communication to make the above goals happen. Moreover, I have discovered from being a UCL campus ambassador that I truly enjoy working with people from all sorts of backgrounds and will use this to ensure everyone’s voices are heard.

By learning first-hand the multifaceted perspectives to global health issues with SfGH, my curiosity has been fuelled further. I look forward to sharing this same passion I experienced with everyone! Thank you :)
