Ishveer S Sanghera

UCL Sikh Society has played an integral role in my university experience, helping me to establish long-lasting friendships whilst also discovering more about my faith and journey into Sikhi. I would like to take this opportunity as President to reach more students and take the society to new heights.

Having been on committee for the past two years, initially as a first-year representative and now as Religious and Interfaith Officer, I have witnessed and feel I possess the skills and commitment required to run events and lead the society successfully.

Despite the pandemic and changing COVID restrictions, the society effectively hosted a range of face-to-face and virtual events throughout the year. As President, I would like to maintain this resilience and continue to arrange events that members would enjoy attending, such as our ice-skating social having an exceptionally high turn-out!

We have also established lasting links with other Sikh societies, such as the Gurseva collaboration with Kings. I would strive to host more inter-uni talks and socials as well as secure further sponsorship deals to increase the reach of our society.

Seva forms a key part of Sikhi and I would ensure that our volunteering with Gurseva continues to run as well as find further opportunities for students to volunteer throughout the year.

If elected, I will provide an inclusive, friendly and sociable atmosphere for all our members, regardless of where they are on their path of Sikhi.

Gurshaun Singh Uppal

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. I am Gurshaun (Shaun) Singh Uppal studying politics and international relations. I am applying for the role of President of Sikh Society as I would love to serve the Panth.

The Sikh Society is a family and that is one of the many reasons why I love it so much. I would love to carry on the inclusivity, friendliness, and tolerance that defines this society. I have adored my time as FYR and social secretary in the society so far and working closely with the previous Presidents has taught me important skills required to be a successful Sikh Society President. I strongly believe I have the relevant communication, interpersonal and time management skills that are vital for this role.

The Sikh Society has given me a space where, with Guru Ji's kirpa, I have been able to step on this journey and get closer to Sikhi. As President next year, I would love to promote an open environment where we can all learn more about our faith through the beautiful teachings of the Gurus. We are all at different stages of our Sikhi journey and I will promote and continue inclusive events where everyone feels welcome to be a member of this society.

I can promise you that I will give 100% effort to Sikh Society as I want this society to flourish and thrive. I understand that being President will be no easy task, but with your permission, it would be an honour to serve you all.
