Dakshin Prayaga

I like to think of myself as a Pokemon aficionado with a knack for numbers and arithmetic.I got into Pokemon as a very young child when my cousins and I won a bootleg Pokemon game CD at an arcade. I grew up the last 16 years of my life playing it and more importantly bonding over it with my cousins. I wish for Pokemon and Pokesoc to provide a similar environment for any newcomers!

As a mathematician by ongoing training and passion, optimization is a problem I'm faced with on the daily.  I believe that as a treasurer I would be able to judiciously manage the financial matters of the society backed up by my keen observance and arithmophilic brain. I also like to think of myself as adept at bookkeeping having previously written invoices for my father's company without a single slip-up while also effectively communicating and explaining invoices to clients of my father's,if necessary. I hope to be able to contribute to the society in the way I can best, dealing with numbers.

In my position as treasurer at pokesoc I aim to collaborate with fellow Elite 4 not only to come up with ideas to raise funds but to also live up to the gargantuan task of keeping pokesoc as welcoming a place as it has been for the duration of my stay at UCL. I am very enthusiastic to be a part of the fabled elite 4 next year and I hope you share the enthuse! Make sure to come with an empty stomach so you can stuff yourself with the snacks this new treasurer promises to include in the budget!

Ethan Ong E Chern

Hey all, my name’s Ethan! While I’ve only started being more active in the society a few months ago, it’s already my second year since joining the society. I’m just always lurking on Discord, judging the quality of the memes channel. Since I want to be a lot more active in helping the society this year, I’m applying for the Treasurer position in Pokesoc.

Treasurer means finance, and finance (usually) means math and Excel, both of which are things I tend to perform well in as an engineering student currently studying a minor in Finance and Accounting. Especially since I already keep track of all my expenses as a foreign student on a giant spreadsheet (=SUM is my best friend), what’s just a few more? Furthermore, my prior experience filtering large amounts of event data as deputy head prefect from my high school can also help in organising funds from members and sponsorships.

In terms of the actual spending, events and snacks are what keep the society alive. I intend to do my best to organise the budget and thus increase the amount of unique events like picnics and most importantly, the volume of junk food.

Pokesoc is a fun community that I most appreciate for having dinner plans beyond just going to the IOE bar. If there’s a way for me to help diversify the food options (and event snacks) by maintaining the budget for it, I’d be very happy to!

Chun Nam Isaac Kan

Hi, I’m Isaac, and my goal as treasurer is to increase financial transparency, host more varied events, and most importantly, to build up this wonderful community for everyone.

As treasurer, my fundamental role is managing the society’s finances and working with the Student Union to access those funds. As a dedicated member of this community, I strive to exceed these expectations by budgeting for the society and being open with its finances so that members have a better understanding of where their money is being spent, both of which can be done by creating and regularly updating a publicly viewable digital ledger.

Besides my financial responsibilities, I have a goal of improving our society, which I will do by organising a broader range of events, both online and offline. While in-person events are generally preferred, I understand that others favour the flexibility of online events, so I will strive to organize more of both types, creating an inclusive society for those who may hold a strong preference. I also wish to share the joys of the different parts of Pokémon by hosting events dedicated to specific aspects of Pokémon, such as our own UCL mini-competitions and Pokémon UNITE days for our growing unite squad, but also more events that you can vote for, leaving the choice to you.

Pokésoc has been my home this year and I am forever grateful, which is why I wish to build on this beautiful community as your treasurer next year.

Musab Rizwan-Ullah

Hi, my name is Musab, and I am a first-year Mathematics student.

When I first started looking at societies to join, my eye was caught by Pokésoc. I had been out of touch with Pokémon for many years but coming to the events and being surrounded by this environment reminded me of how important it was to me during my childhood.

When it comes to financial experience, I was a part of a successful enterprise challenge, ranking within the top 5% in my city. Through this, I further developed a multitude of skills, such as budgeting, honing my attention to detail in financial matters, as well as thinking methodically and strategically, all of which I believe are crucial for the role of treasurer. I have already thought of ways to fundraise for the society, an example being working with the arts officer to potentially launch new merchandise, such as Pokésoc hoodies.

Meeting new people and becoming friends with them this year has meant so much to me, and I am extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to run for next year's committee. I have the desire to play a pivotal role in this society, and I hope that next year I can also take a hand in making Pokésoc a comfortable place for new members to fit in to, like our current committee have done.
