Hannah Chen

Hello! I am Hannah, a second year History student and the current co-events officer in Pi Media. With the experience I have gained this year, I would like to be a pillar of support for the next Pi Media committee. I intend to contribute by forming successful budgets for various initiatives, assisting the events team in creating realistic timelines, and helping different committee members in overcoming any administrative bottlenecks they face as they carry out their role. I am also keen to collaborate and aid the President with their plans for the year ahead, and continue the legacy of Pi Media as the university's oldest and largest student paper. I would like to explore the benefits of sponsorships, the possibilities of collaboration with other societies, and the structures that ensure proper representation in the stories that Pi produce. Armed with the knowledge and experience, I desire to become a treasurer whose presence can invigorate, unite and embolden the committee.

Being Treasurer is an important role - one which requires a great level of trust and accountability. I'd like to believe that I am capable of such a responsibility, and while I'm no Rishi Sunak, my experience working as a maths tutor means I have a good head for numbers. I am comfortable managing large sums of money, and have organised a variety of charitable fundraisers in the past. One thing that is really important to me is honesty; and my metaphorical door is always open! As your treasurer I would always be on hand to answer any questions or queries that you might have.

There's no denying that running a society's budget is tricky business. As your treasurer, I would aim to achieve the following three objectives:

  1. Keep Pi Media solvent & continue to fund our high standard of student journalism
  2. Distribute more funding towards networking & social events
  3. Structure our finances in a sustainable way, ensuring stability for the future

With your help, I know that these three things are absolutely possible! I'm also keen to hear your ideas and suggestions, and hope to work with other members of the committee to continue expanding the breadth and depth of the content that we produce.

I've loved writing for Pi over the past few months, and I'm keen to get more involved in the society over the next academic year. If you have any questions then please do drop me a message on Slack!

Thanks for your time! I hope you have a wonderful day :)

Nikhil A Vyas

Hi everyone, my name is Nikhil, I’m a second-year history student and have been working as a Features Editor for Pi Media this year. I’ve really enjoyed collaborating with writers, co-editors and committee executives to produce great content for the publication, and I’m now keen to play an important role in its operations and growth.

Why I’m a good fit for this role:

  • I have the necessary finance and business acumen, having worked with a music company last year to improve their revenue streams and having had work experiences in the financial services. I am comfortable bookkeeping, and am prepared to handle the financial side of the society
  • I have strong soft skills which is key for liaising with other executives and for engaging with potential sponsors. My time working in a team of 6 and with the executives of marine conservation charity over 3 months to help launch a sustainable consumer product typifies how I’ve strengthened my teamworking
  • Given the positive experience I’ve had with the society this year, I’m really keen to further grow and improve it, and not just maintain the status quo

Some things I plan on doing if elected:

  • Secure sponsorship and appropriate advertising deals by showcasing the value our publication can offer on campus
  • Work with writers and video-makers to give them financial support so they can create increasingly ambitious content

I would really appreciate your support- thanks!

Mike Hammond

Hi, I’m Mike and I’m running for Treasurer of Pi Media.

I’m going for the position of Treasurer as I want to make a difference at Pi, building on my experience as a Features editor and creating opportunities for all members to be engaged with Pi Media.

As Treasurer, I would make the role more collaborative, working with other committee members to plan and effectively manage Pi, providing more opportunities for members to get together in person, at socials and other events. I want to make the task of the Treasurer more open to new ideas from all Pi members, using my position to realise article and publication proposals that will benefit Pi.

As a Features editor, I’ve focused on issues impacting students, including the UCU strikes and the recent NUS march. As part of this role, I collaborated with writers, editors, Pi officers, and other societies to produce articles. Having had this great experience, I understand how Pi works and I know what I can do as Treasurer to have a positive impact on the running of the society for the benefit of all members and publications.

I will confidently handle Pi’s finances with skills developed whilst I’ve been studying Engineering and Architecture for the past 2 years; I’m a hard working and organised person, determined to manage Pi’s budget responsibly and successfully as your Treasurer.

It would be fantastic to be Treasurer next year and helping to improve Pi on your behalf. I hope I can count on your vote!
