Bella Gilbert

I spent most of my childhood training and fighting but it wasn't as fun as it has been these past few months. Joining UCL Muay Thai, I fell back in love with the sport. It allowed me to come back and enjoy it on my own terms. So, I want to give back to the club and foster the same environment that helped me.

This past year, I was a part of the committee as PR secretary and acted as the main point of contact for our society. Through this, I increased our social media presence and interaction, which helped attract new members. I was also responsible for handling queries, which proves I am already actively engaging within the community. So, I know how to organise the club and its events and thus, I am well suited to the role.

As a girl who competed at a national level in a male dominated sport, I am aware of the challenges women face when joining a sport like this and hope to encourage female participation both recreationally and competitively. Not only this but I can support and lead all fighters with training and competing due to my successful past in Muay Thai.

As President, I hope to expand on all social aspects by engaging with the wider community at UCL and with university Muay Thai by organising joint socials with other societies and taking members to more fighting opportunities. I believe this would further build upon our close-knit community, which is what makes our club so special.
