Camilla Mina

Hello everyone! I'm Camilla, a second-year BSc. Social Sciences student. 

Having been a member of the society since my first year and working as the executive editor in my second year, I have experience working with the team and members of the society. In my third year at UCL, I have decided to run for Head of sustainability.

After watching the movie "The true cost", which looks at the impact of the clothes we wear and their impact on the people who make them and the planet, I discovered a completely different side of fashion that is often ignored in the fashion industry and the media.

Although fashion is usually depicted as glamorous and charming, there are numerous downsides to a system that cannot survive without sacrifices to people and nature. The fashion industry needs to fundamentally change to reduce the environmental impact of fast fashion. For this reason, my aim is to start by working towards having a more sustainable Modo Fashion society at UCL, for example, by publishing sustainability-related articles in the MODO magazine. I would also like to organize workshops or inclusive discussion topics on the future of fashion, as I believe it would be interesting for other students and members of the society to bring new ideas to the table, also working in collaboration with other UCL societies that focus on the environment.
