I am very passionate about our environment at UCL where more senior students pass on their knowledge to younger students. This is something I am keen to develop as President.

My past teaching experiences include 7 years of private tutoring, and running medical tutorials as a transition mentor and for other societies. I am keen to use these skills to improve the quality of our tutorials by making them more interactive and ensuring there are notes available from each tutorial. We will go through each tutorial feedback form to implement changes. Students will be given a request form 3 times a term with topic and date requests to ensure maximum attendance and benefit! My role as Emergency Medicine Chair, alongside leadership positions at UCL Hindu Society and the British Indian Medical Association have given me experience running national tutorials, conferences, networking events and given me the experience of leading a large society. I have marketed and advertised national events and have secured 2 unique sponsorship packages for these societies during COVID by using my networking and professional communication skills. I aim to use these connections and skills as President.

I plan to implement the following changes:

  • Run more mock OCAPE/OSCE workshops, talks and tutorials
  • Give more research opportunities to students, and introduce more workshops to equip students for research
  • Use a society calendar to avoid date clashes

Raunak Jain

Hello! I’m Raunak and I’m running to be the President of UCL Medical Society and build on the amazing work that has already been done.

Previously serving as the general medicine chair for UCL Medical Society and treasurer for UCL Anatomy Society, I have gained much experience and appreciation for the organisation and coordination required to run such a society.

My aims:

1. Continue on with a range of educational events aimed at preclinical students to encourage early participation with medical society (akin to the introductory lectures and kahoot quizzes I have run this year).

2. I would further create a shadowing scheme where UCL Medical Society members could shadow clinicians similar to the UCL Surgical Shadowing scheme to improve exposure and interest towards medicine, especially in the preclinical years.

3. Provide a support service, where a network of senior medical students or clinicians could provide academic support, research advice and perhaps mentorship.

4. Furthermore, I would encourage competitions with a similar template to the Anatomy Cup by UCL Anatomy Society and the Kahoot quizzes I have helped organise in UCL Medical Society. This would help improve participation and boost education.

5. I would also implement a request form on social media where you can request certain events or talks.

Finally, I am always approachable and easy to get hold of. I’d be happy to hear everyone else’s suggestions and make medsoc even greater!

Raian Jaibaji

Hi everyone! I'm Raian, I'm currently in my third year and I am the preclinical education chair for UCL Medical Society!

As president I would ensure that alongside regular support for core modules, there will be networking opportunities across a wide range of specialties as well as research opportunities throughout the year. I would also like to introduce outreach schemes, allowing the medical society to work more with the wider community and hopefully make a positive impact. Encouraging collaboration between speciality chairs as well as creating a mentoring scheme open to all medical students are also things I hope to achieve.

Thank you
