I am standing and would like to nominate myself for the position of welfare officer because it is a position that I see myself striving in and that I could use to help others and their mental health. If I were to be a welfare officer, I would enforce and make sure that no member is disrespecting or breaking other members' boundaries in the society. As with all discussions and talks related to politics, I understand that things can get heated and that people can often take offense at one's political view or belief and hold a grudge against that person for thinking differently. As an officer I will ensure to the best of my abilities to not let that happen, as if a person passes someone's boundaries, to enforce consequences. Additionally, and something that I have dealt with personally, is sexual harassment (verbal). If anyone makes any unnecessary remarks or comments of any degree, I will ensure to let the other officers know it, for it to be addressed immediately, and for there to be serious consequences for anyone who chooses to disrespect other people in that way. With that said too, I will ensure and make sure that I can be a person that other people can come to talk about any issues, related to the IR society or not. I will also make sure that everyone has had the chance to speak and contribute his/her ideas equally in discussions. In short, it is because of how passionate I am about not only IR but on helping others, that I believe I would make a good welfare officer.
