Often, life's most rewarding experiences are ones we actively seek and inspire us to let go out of our comfort zones - in the case of gliding, sometimes quite literally. Our gliding community is diverse and rich, with individuals from all walks of life. As such, it is crucial to foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, respected. As a welfare officer, I aim to ensure that the UCL Gliding Club remains a hub of shared experiences and growth while providing care for everyone's well-being. In addition to the exciting experience of gliding, I believe in the power of communal activities to strengthen our bond as a club. Currently, our club activities are almost only focused on flying on the weekends with a small group. However, as part of my role, I aim to introduce two times monthly gatherings where members can share their thoughts about their well-being and flight experiences with pizza, snacks and the flight simulator. These events would allow us to connect and exchange ideas on a personal level and provide a platform to discuss our experiences and challenges in a relaxed and welcoming setting. The aim is to foster a greater sense of community and belonging, transforming our club from not just a place to learn and experience gliding but also a space with a warm community.
