First Gen society is a community that is close to my heart. This was the place where I first met people who had similar life experiences to me, who understood me and made me feel part of a like-minded group.

I hope to create a similar environment for every member of First Gen so that everyone feels comfortable and at home with the safe space that we create at First Gen.

Having been Events officer for a year at First Gen, I have witnessed the importance of seeing representation around campus, and how empowering that can be for fellow first gens. I hope to continue to build on this through my role as President this year.

Working with other societies and networks is a big part of my vision for First Gen this year. Past examples of our collaborations include 93% club, which turned out to be a successful venture. I hope to branch out more this year by bringing art and cultural societies to First Gen, to encourage relaxation and unwinding practices which are key to balancing a healthy life at university.

I also hope to work with the events and welfare officers to organise regular well-being socials and gatherings that offer the space for students to share and discuss any issues that are affecting them and appreciate the similarities in experiences for First Gens.

Most importantly, I recognise and value the wonderful people that make up the community of First Gen, and I hope I get the honour of serving them by acting as President for the coming year.

Many thanks!
