Hello! I'm Princess, a first year Psychology undergrad and I believe that I should be Connect.ed's next Welfare Officer. I've had roles in previous schools to promote wellbeing, such as helping students to adjust to new environments and feel more included in the community. I have done this through setting up sessions to help with students' concerns about starting a new school and giving tours to new students, hoping to put them at ease when faced with an unfamiliar environment. I also had the chance to mentor students, being able to give them advice on how to revise, balance studies and rest and encourage them towards improvement. I hope to continue this purpose in university and further understand the importance of wellbeing if I do become Welfare Officer! What I'll bring to Connect.ed is to create a pleasant, open community of postgrads and undergrads interested in research, making sure that everyone can get the most out of the society, be it the RMP, academic talks and socials - whatever subject background you come from, even if it's not known to be as research oriented. Connect.ed has plenty of opportunities to get into research, enabling members to take responsibility in their work and mentoring, so being able approach it with a good, positive mindset is needed. Therefore, I feel that this role is important so that everyone can feel comfortable and involved in whatever the society has to offer while gaining new, valuable experiences and research skills.
