ECMO stands for Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation, meaning ECMO can temporarily replace the function of a person's heart and/or lungs

It was invented in the 1960s by a team led by Dr.

Bartlett, whose invention has since saved thousands of lives, babies and adults alike
