Islington Council - Community Wealth Building
Islington has a strong and dynamic economy, many parts of which continue to thrive. However, our economy does not work for everyone: too many local people experience poverty and disadvantage and too many local businesses struggle to overcome barriers to growth. Without action, Islington’s gap between the haves and have-nots will increase.
Description

The aim of Safe Havens is to improve feelings of Safety to foster a culture of care on Islington’s high street and to offer a practical way of helping everyone in the borough to enjoy their community knowing that support is easily available if they need help. The effectiveness of these safe havens will be assessed through surveys and feedback from the community. We are looking for a volunteer to assist the council in analysing the collected data and offering recommendations to enhance or modify the program as needed.

Some of the questions we want to address are:

  • How can we clarify the role and purpose of Safe Havens to maximize their potential in reducing crime and fear of crime?
  • How can we enhance our collaboration with Safe Havens, recognizing their interest in greater involvement in safety issues?
  • How can we improve communication and engagement levels with Safe Havens?
  • How can we measure the effectiveness of the scheme and its impact on people's sense of safety?
  • How can we expand governance for the scheme to include internal Council teams and community stakeholders like businesses and the VCS?
Duties

  1. Analyse quantitative and qualitative data, identify patterns, differences, and correlations in the data to identify areas for improvement.
  2. Identifying gaps in data and conducting research, focus groups etc to increase understanding in these areas.
  3. Researching similar projects in other councils/organisations to identify different models/approaches to managing the scheme.
  4. Document findings: Summarize research findings in clear and concise reports. Present findings to relevant stakeholders, including council members, community organizations, and Safe Havens staff.
  5. Develop recommendations: Based on research findings, collaborate with the council and Safe Havens team to develop actionable recommendations for program enhancements or modifications.
