Throughout my academic journey, I have encountered many occasions demanding adaptation to new environments, with the transition from high school to university being a particularly daunting experience. Joining the Sri Lankan Society at UCL smoothed this transition, inspiring me to take an active role within the community.

It is with great enthusiasm that I present myself as a candidate for the role of President for the forthcoming academic year. My vision for our Sri Lankan Society is one of inclusivity, empowerment, and celebration of our rich cultural heritage. I hope to strengthen our community by bringing Sri Lankans together, both within UCL, and beyond through organising more collaborations with other universities. While encouraging participation in all the current events we host and take part in, may it be pub crawls, games nights, our Christmas and New Year’s event, Warwick’s Mela or Imperial’s Sapphire, I hope to implement a few new improvements.

Action Plan:

-      Networking opportunities featuring speakers from various industries

-      Scale up our Sinhalese and Tamil New Year’s Event and offer a more immersive cultural experience

-      More team-building activities tailored for freshers

-      Strengthen partnerships with other organisations to enhance support and sponsorships
